Gabriel Jesus return from injury

He's a young kid still learning his trade on foreign shores. He's been nothing short of phenomenal in my opinion, he's scored goals, he's lead the line, got stuck in, chased lost causes, pressed the defenders. He's like an old fashioned centre forward with great feet and a good work rate. He'll get better and we'll reap the rewards big time.

I think the flair is absolutely there but it's just that he's so good nobody notices it. He doesn't make a big thing of it, he just does it.

He's not a traditional greedy Brazillian showoff, so he'll pass when Neymar would keep the ball.

Some of his touches are out of this world imo & there is loads more to come.
He tries a lot of backheel flicks.

In particular he has a move where he runs away from goal, a midfielder runs into the space and Jesus receives a pass and tries to flick it to that midfielder making the run.

It doens't work very often but we try it 3 or 4 times a game when he's around.

He flicks the ball over people's heads a lot & controls it on the other side as well.

He did it to Otamendi vs Argentina & he straight armed him in the face.

Stats are stats. I can’t remember a game where he’s took it by the scruff of the neck, especially the so-called ‘big’ games.
That's not the requirement of a 20 year old though.

I'm immensely impressed with Mbappe but he's a bit of a one off for this era and nobody is saying that Jesus is going to be as good as Mbappe will be. Mbappe is the best young striker i've seen since Ronaldo was at Barca for that season he was 19 and scored 49 goals in 47 games. Other than that, have you seen any 20 year old striker taking games by the scruff of the neck?

Messi scored 17 goals in 36 games for Barca in the season he was 20 and wasn't quite taking games by the scruff of the neck at that stage (although it wasn't that long until he was). CRonaldo scored 9 goals in 50 games for United when he was 20 and it was about three years before he was taking games by the scruff of the neck. But again nobody is expecting Jesus to be as good as Ronaldo Messi or CRonaldo.

Can you name any other 20 year olds in Premier League taking "big games by the scruff of the neck"? His game is clearly still developing, but if you are unable to see the obvious talent there then fair enough. I find it very odd the way some of our fans seem so keen to prematurely write off players.

Richarlison has taken a few big games and made them his own, and Dele Alli, Sané etc. were doing it at that age.

But I think Jesus is just a far more consistent performer than them. Some young players are very up and down and become great by reducing the gap between their amazing games, others (like Jesus IMO) are consistently good and then just gradually improve year on year until they're consistently excellent.

And that consistency which has allowed Guardiola to trust him so much, and why Tite has trusted him to be Brazil's number 9, it makes him able to play constantly for 2 top level sides at such a young age.

Great points..... some need to have a serious look at themselves. Within his peers, he's in the top echelons...!! Mbappe apart, he's up there for me

Yeah especially when he's played into the channels and ends up wide - which when you think about it is where almost all skill or trick moves happen, so it's not surprising that a central striker doesn't do as much as previous Brazilian wonderkids who usually started as wide players.

Oh definitely. I'm 100% not criticising him. I'm just saying maybe a lot expected something different from him. His game is definitely a lot more subtle than most expected and I think it leads to an unfair underwhelming experience. He just goes about his job and he blends in a lot more, and those players sometimes don't get appreciated anywhere near as much. I do think his form was better before his first injury, but he's clearly having a helluva settling in period. Injuries, new country, no real rests for god knows how long, such a young age, weight of a HUGE footballing nation on his shoulders as their #9. The lad is dealing wtih insane amounts of pressure

He has the talent. I’m more worried about his injuries. Been here a year and seems to have been injured for half of it. Could do with him back soon!

Personally can't see us winning any more big games if Aguero plays instead of Jesus. The work that Jesus does maybe invisible to some but it's nevertheless very real.

Somebody already mentioned above that move that Jesus does away from goal to bring in a runner...something similar won us the game away to Chelsea, and that was a pivotal game this season.
