Gabriel Jesus return from injury

He has the talent. I’m more worried about his injuries. Been here a year and seems to have been injured for half of it. Could do with him back soon!
The good (if there is a good thing about them?) is that they aren't muscle injuries though so i'm not panicking about him being injury prone. He's been unlucky with contorting his body into awkward positions and doing a ligament. He diesn't seem to be one of those who does a hamstring on the run.

I think the flair is absolutely there but it's just that he's so good nobody notices it. He doesn't make a big thing of it, he just does it.

He's not a traditional greedy Brazillian showoff, so he'll pass when Neymar would keep the ball.

Some of his touches are out of this world imo & there is loads more to come.

He plays for the team not for himself.

I assume Pep has had an influence on him not showing so much trickery but it will be interesting so see how he develops his game.

If he was starting every week, I think we would see more flair and I think we will once he feels properly established in the starting XI.

For the record I was talking about Jesus

You do rate Jesus above Mbappe? And why? Not challenging your views; just want to see if there's something I have overlooked as I think Mbappe is the better player at this moment.

I have obviously seen a lot more of Jesus than Mbappe and I am biased. When I have watched Mbappe he usually plays out wide where you usually get a lot more space, hence making it easier to shine. Whereas Jesus plays down the middle where he will have two centre halves all over him but he still seems to handle it better than any kid of his age I remember. Maybe my question should have been name one that plays at the top level playing down the middle?

Currently or ever?

Currently, true #9s, it would be hard to place any from anywhere as good. You're not Brazil's main #9 at 20 for no reason.

Has there ever been a better #9 than Ronaldo though? He was a year younger than Jesus in that year at Barca was was like nothing anyone had ever seen before and nobody has since. 49 goals in 47 games at 19 in one of the top European leagues, Christ that's just amazing!

it is, but he was broken far earlier than he would have liked. Too much too soon.

Ronaldo league stats at the end of 1998-99 (aged 22): Apps: 148, Goals: 127.
Ronaldo league stats at the end of 2011 (aged 35, Retirement): Apps: 343, Goals: 247.
Record between 22-35: Apps: 195, Goals: 120 (Per Season): Apps: 15, Goals: 9.

I'd rather Jesus do it the other way around. Hence why I find the comparisons of records at 18,19,20 unhelpful.

I too rate Jesus very highly and hoping to see a lot more of him. Regarding the Brazilian flair and dribbling that some fans were expecting to see, I think it may well be he has been instructed to cut that out and focus on being plain vanilla efficient for the team, at least for now. I remember reading one interview with Xavi, and I don't remember the exact words, but it was something along the lines of 'they were encouraged to be good players not clever* players'.

* probably was another word, not 'clever' - I understood it to mean one who focusses on tricks and showboating too much.

Also, as you say, a wide player has more space to do fancy stuff and Jesus plays through the middle where inevitably he is crowded out by CBs.

The flair is there and Pep will be expecting him to do the basics first and then show more of that. He has an excellent work rate and fights for every ball regardless whether it may be a lost cause. His work centrally allows others to play so well off him. That is still where Aguero is lacking, he simply has not got the raw pace now to chase the ball down as effectively and it was never his strength to play instant pass and move football. He likes to drop deep and run with the ball but then we lack the focal point at times. Aguero scores goals but is often not involved at all until the shot whereas Jesus is involved in creating the space and chances too.

Our overall play seems to suffer a bit with Aguero on the pitch though that is through my eyes only and perhaps the stats sughest otherwise!
