Am I missing the point with this guy???? He can't defend, great going forward but exposed horribly in big games. Is he that much of a step up from Kolorov? Who has now played in the league and will have a full pre season behind him

I think he will be a much better player with a better defensive team to work with. he didnt have a great season last year, but he was class for the couple years before that. he certainly has the physical tools (i believe he will now be the fastest player we have) and roberto has a record of improving the mental side of defenders (see Micah Richards).
very good post that mate.

But any of these 2 better than our 2nd most improved player from last season......Zabs.

Thats back to front, He's good at defending but not so great going forward. for tackling and cutting passes out he's in the top 3 in the league and very fast too.

Re: Gael Clichy

Excellent signing for the money, home-grown, bags of PL & CL experience, pace to burn - I'm sure BM will sort out any defensive inadequacies.

We'd be looking at £15m-£20m+ for an equivalent if not in the last year of his contract.

Pushing for 100 pages so he doesn't feel left out :-)

Re: Gael Clichy

Yeah, Clichy is not good going forward - well he starts well and can dribble a bit, just make sure he releases the ball to an attacking player instead of crossing it. His assist stats make for scary reading, he is as poor as Bridge at crossing. But considering Kolarov's whopping 0 league assists last season (compared to Clichy's 1), Kolarov's own alleged strengths have seldom been seen. Clichy is better than Kolarov (or at least the Kolarov we've seen so far) defensively so I'm expecting him to start the season as first choice LB.

I can recall him getting round the back and having enough composure to pull it back (crown green stylee) for a team-mate without the need to smash it nipple height at no fucka in particuliar....so thats a start. Plus i ain't seen him spew out of the road of a ball kicked in close proximity to him incase it might really sting (a £50k a week sting) so thats another brucey bonus.

Re: Gael Clichy

Its signings like this that excite me more.

7 mil for Clichy is just amazing. Top top left back that will be our number 1 choice in that position.

That young black striker from Caen aswell and Savic get me excited.

I'm sure BlueMoon will sort out any defensive inadequacies, too. All Gael needs is a username and password then he can log on straight after a match to find out that he "can't tackle", "is dogshit" and "worse than Bridge".

We will have the best of both worlds with Clichy and Kolarov, games that we are against fast wingers and need more cover we play Clichy and against teams that have less threat out wide we can play Kolarov and have him bombing forward with Richards on the otherside.
