Gael Clichy [Merged]

watched his interview on the OS before. he certainly has his head screwed on and seems like an intelligent lad. didn't give the typical same answers to every question like reading off a script, like every player does.

he seems a really nice lad.

also another cheeky mention about manchester and city fans!

question for the bods out there.
does gael clichy retain his homegrown staus for the purpose of the 25 man squad rule?
he was 18 when he joined the gooners so certainly qualified.

the rule seems to suggest so but i'm unsure if when you transfer it stays

Yes, he counts as homegrown.

Yes, he counts as homegrown.

cool, that makes it an even better signing

Was laughing with (at?) a gooner at work last night about the Clichy signing. He said "you won't be laughing when you've seen him play a few times".

Hope he's wrong?!??!

Dont get this... We've all seen him play loads of times...

I must have watched 30+ TV games with Arsenal in in the last few years.

We are getting a good left back, young but with experience in the CL for £7million

No risk whatsoever.

Absolute worse case, we get a cheap, home-grown backup to Kolarov who played 37 games in total for us (24 in the PL) as part of the tightest defence in the league

-- Fri Jul 08, 2011 2:10 pm --

I'll bet Rawk are spitting feathers - or the site has already exploded :D

Gael Clichy has revealed he snubbed offers from Liverpool and Roma to join Manchester City.

The France international completed his £7million switch from Arsenal this week after signing a four-year contract with the Eastlands club.

The 25-year-old claims he had talks with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli about a move to Anfield, while Roma also made him an attractive offer to move to Italy.

However, Clichy claims he made the decision to join City as he wants to continue playing in the UEFA Champions League and be competing for trophies.

Serious contacts

"With Liverpool contacts have been very serious," Clichy told L'Equipe. "I had phone calls with Damien Comolli, I knew him for a while.

Gael Clichy on interest from Liverpool Quotes of the week

"Indeed, there was AS Roma too, with a nice project and an exciting proposition. But I wanted to stay in Premier League.

"I like football here and the state of mind. Moreover, City offered me the opportunity to play again Champions League. I don't know if it will be the case during the next two seasons, but next term I will play in it."

Clichy also refuted suggestions he only joined City for financial reasons.

"Money? I would have earned almost the same at Liverpool. The defenders' wages don't evolve a lot," he added.

"I can understand people believe money has been a key factor. It is not the case.

Ambitious

"Manchester City is a big club, with a big team, an ambitious club which wants to shine in any competition.

"Was I fed up to not win any trophy at Arsenal? No. I don't know if City will win anything, and maybe Arsenal will win the title next term.

"But I believe City has better weapons.

"At Arsenal, the end was frustrating. We were in all competitions until March and after we lost the League Cup final, everything collapsed.

"The Manchester City offer came late, but I didn't think a lot."
