Game of Thrones (season 8)

The lighting issue is obvious, because of so many complaints.. Those saying you need to adjust settings, sit 16 feet away, draw the curtains, watch in 96k hd, optimally feng shui your living room etc are blind.. Blind to piss poor editing and lighting..

I'm surprised I haven't seen a suggestion of watching the episode at 0.75 speed
To further this, my lad rewatched it on his computer monitor tonight( a good one) and adjusted the settings etc. With the visibility improved you could see so much more that I am sure that you were intended to see and honestly think that level of darkness was a mistake, the scene in the library and others made so much more sense, things happening in the background, sweeping panoramic views etc revealed details that were just not visible last night, so much so that I am gonna watch it again in full before the next episode.

The problem with the "encoding" by amazon etc is a lot of the issue. They have changed their settings for the worse, less quality in short. A quality tv or monitor can work around this. You should not have to of course but thems the breaks. Even the bluerays suffer from the issue we saw (banding) for example season 7 needed filtering to fix the blueray sources even. So it is not even exclusive to streaming sadly but bad mastering in some cases.

Back to the show, i noticed upon...

The NK's death. One of his lackeys just caught a whisper of Arya just before she struck. On a second viewing with my settings changed i saw this clearly. I was not still trying to process the last dark scene in my ikkle brain. That was actually very good, it speaks to Arya's training. That was all i needed/wanted for that scene and it was a "fix" for me definitely.

Pure bollocks that vid, the leader of the dothraki was raised from the dead, horses bolted back, jurah had to run back ect. The lights going out was to show how powerful the undead were and made it even more daunting because you couldn't even see them.
Very vague, no spoilers there. ;-)

If you haven't watched it by now then I dunno what to say haha, America put spoilers out at 2am for us to wake up to. On Mondays I have to stay off the internet till I finish work haha.
I saw Avengers Endgame at the same time it was airing here, so also had to stay away for nearly 24 hours to avoid any more spoilers than had already been released by the show itself. ;-)

Watched it again after playing around with the brightness, contrast, and backlight settings, increasing them about 25% from the default I have them at, which is pretty warm. What a huge difference, it was like watching it for the first time as I was able to see much more of the background footage. Probably helped that I knew what to look for second time around.

Conclusion: absolutely stunning episode. The music during the end sequence was superb.

Thought it was a great episode and don't understand the criticism - not necessarily on here but in general.

The episode shot in the middle of the night was dark? The character that has done nothing but train to be a magical assassin for 5 years now did assassin things? There were unbelievable parts of an episode about a thousand year old ice demon who can raise the dead attacking a castle defended by dragons and a magic priestess? Not enough characters died - except for 2 that were introduced within the first 10 minutes of the very first episode? I don't get it.

It feels like a symptom of the internet age where everyone has their own theory and opinion about what should happen and becomes upset when things turn out differently.

The only valid criticism I can see is the past 2 seasons feel rushed. That's fair. It's a symptom of the large world and complex story the writer has built. Even he can't write himself out of the corner he's dug himself. It's why it took him 15 years to finish the past 2 books, which are lesser quality then the first 3 which he wrote in about 5 years. The story has gotten to big.

The show is still phenomenally entertaining and anyone who has to nitpick everything to the point where they can no longer enjoy it needs to get a grip.

I began watching Game of Thrones two weeks ago and I am now up to date because once I began, having avoided it for years, I couldn't stop. I thought this week's episode was class, even though my fifty-year-old eyes couldn't see everything that was going on. I also thought that Arya being the one who ended it was a powerful statement. Sometimes, one just needs to be entertained. Were you not entertained?
