Garage mechanic crashed my car! Advice needed.

The insurance certificate he eventually gave me a copy of, only states that he, his wife and 3 children can drive vehicles related to his business. When I questioned this (as he told me his mechanic crashed the car), he lost the plot and ranted that I know nothing about trade policies. The certificate is quite clear that only 5 people are covered to drive vehicles relating to his business. I've got legal cover and so leaving it to them to look into it. I wish I knew how to post pics, the car is a mess. Both wings, doors, bonnet, front bumper, headlamps and wheels buckled. Brake fluid, oil and water pouring out of it too. It's going to get very complicated this, I can feel it.

In my opinion he trying to pull a fast one,Any mechanic will tell you, that any work done on a vehicle ie lets say brakes, would not hand over the keys to someone else to check their work
they check it them self.
But as a few have said let your insurance deal with it..
Ask why the mechanic is not on the certificate if he a employee..
the owner off the garage it liable to make sure all work is up to the appropriate & safe standards as well as care for your vehicle whilst in his possession..
I would definitely not let him buy you a like for like Without a full AA/RAC vehicle Check as the bear minimal..

He phoned me at 8am, completely different tone to yesterday. Offering me a cheque for £1500 if I sign a statement for full and final settlement. My car was Honda Civic 2003 1.6 VTEC executive, 85,000 mls. I know it's an old car but it was spotless and I loved it. I'm going to look on auto trader now to see if it's comparable. I'm sat here wondering what to do as I know his insurance policy is dodgy as dodgy can be.

Garage is an MOT station very close to Maine Rd. I don't want to name it yet as he's already shown me he's a bully and I need to be the one in control of this. I've had a friend who works at Aviva take a look at his insurance. It's 100% a fronted policy allowing his 3 children and wife to drive any car they want under the premises of business use. What if my car had been worth £20k?! He wouldn't offer me 20 grand cash or cheque would he? I've passed everything to Admiral (my insurance company) who are now going to deal with his insurers and arrange to collect my car. I still haven't got my keys from him....

Hold out and dont take any offer off him, just leave it with your insurance company for now and you will end up a lot better off. He knows that he is in the shit. When its sorted make sure to name and shame the arsehole on here so nobody else gets stung
