Garden Birds and wild birds thread.

Shakespeare. " When the Red Kite nests..look to lesser linen"

A nod ,in A Winters Tale,..to the raptors habit of stealing clothes from washing lines ,back in the days when folk hung linen high ,house to house, on the treets of London...to adourn their nests.
I'm lost mate. Maybe its another Genesis song.

This is the lyrics of Winters Tale that I recognise:

"A Winter's Tale"

The winter's bitterness is lost
It's the fireside warmth that comforts me
The peace for all my thoughts

The night brings shadows to the street
It's the time for dreams of things to come
To creep inside their lives

You're concealing every feeling
Can you find me, deep inside you
Let me touch you, let me keep you
Let me know you're there

You're concealing every feeling
Can you find me, no
Yes deep inside you're a part of me
Every day I need to know I'm there, I'm there, I'm there

The evening fantasy begins
In the sandy lanes that cross the fields
The gentle rain will fall

The morning sweeps away the night
And the dreams of you still haunt my thoughts
Bring meaning to my life

You're concealing every feeling
Can you find me, deep inside you
Let me touch you, let me keep you
Let me know you're there

You're concealing every feeling
Can you find me, no
Yes deep inside you're a part of me
Every day I need to know I'm there, I'm there, I'm there

Can you hold me with your small hand
Prepare much, length and beauty of our tiny lives
Future's brighter now
Our world is everything to me, to know, I'm there
Lord! You see the world is brighter than the sky
The sky is shining everywhere in our world
You know you never said in your many times, all in me instead

Loads of Red Kites around here at the moment. Magpies too (my favourite bird).
The thugs of the crow world.

They steal all the coconut feeders we put out and when they aren't doing that they are attacking and sometimes eating the smaller birds. They are clever buggers though I will give them that.
I do like Red Kites though - they are becoming less and less rare in Scotland.

Great post mate, you certainly know your birds.

I saw a lot or Red Kites when i was working on telecom towers, especially around M40 corridor in Oxfordshire. Also i saw plenty in Herefordshire Wiltshire Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. Also saw quite a few in mid Wales and around Dumfries-Galloway, Scotland.

My best sighting was when I was working about 40m up on a tower in Herefordshire (IIRC), about 15 years ago. I was busy working away on a lovely day and i got to see a pair of Kites fly in unison by the tower under me by only 5M or so, wingspans cant have been more than a metre apart from each other. Their graceful presence of seeing a pair of magnificent birds of prey close up blew me away. Talk about a wow moment. Something I'll never forget.
Reminds me of two Terns ( dont know what species) one Spring, a few years back as i was out on a run near Attenborough Notts.

Noticed two white sea birds slowly flying towards me as I walked off field..flying perfectly in tandem, clearly some intense courtship flight)..as they got nearer to me,they gracefully split...so as not to fly directly over my head , but you just knew that they would join up again and sure enough ,having flown past me they gracefully returned to flying in Tandem...it was a Work of Art in motion,I'd never seen anything like it in my life, and just stood still in amazement as they continued their love-flight.

Lol!
Cheers for posting the lyrics to WT reminds me of the 1st album which I got as a repress years after its release.

I.. maybe.. should have made it clear it's the Shakespeare play A Winters Tale where the Red Kite reference comes from ...

Going back to early Genesis though..'In Limbo' followed by "The Silent Sun' are fantastic tracks, imo.
There is another track I rate but can't remember it now.

Not sure if we get kites here. Tons of red tail hawks though which are a nice looking bird.
I always have to keep my eye out for them when I let the cat out.
