Gareth Barry Retires

Excellent player, consistent, and a model professional, bar that time he went to St Andrews University with Adam Johnson, and that business with the taxi in Barcelona. A very important player in our early success, and one we let go too early. I reckon he would make a great manager.

Thanks Gaz Baz.

An honest professional. Does he fancy a coaching job? Our kids would do well to learn from him.
Like many others, I never rated Gareth until he put on the Blue shirt, but I soon realised what a great job he did, shielding the back four and supplying the link between defence and attack.

He was also brilliant at winning fouls, though he committed more than his fair share too. The most booked player in PL history, I believe.

All the best in retirement, Gareth. You deserve all the tributes coming your way.

So many games and his only silverware came with us, yet the media will primarily list him as a former Villa/Everton player, even though he played more games for us than the latter.

Only 8 goals in his time with us, but one against ‘that lot’ so always a beer in my fridge for him.
Didn’t he score against Littlewoods, when HRH was in attendance?
