Brilliant player. Was a bit underwhelmed when we first signed him but watching play for us I realised that he was outstanding. The way he read the game, the unselfish job he did and the fact he kept his head down stands him as one of the greats in this league.

Hope he enjoys a bit of time off and I think we’ll see him coaching somewhere in the future for sure.

He got a lot of stick on here at times, which he didn't deserve. He played a vital role in the title winning side in 11/12. He made 34 appearances in the PL that season; you don't do that if you're shit.

He was never shit, like has been said an unsung hero who was wrongly trashed after the world Cup for being slow by the media. He kept the ball ticking over and did the dirty work, fantastic at winning fouls by sticking his arse out and falling over when we were being overrun defensively.

A great player and a great professional for us had a lot of games where he went unnoticed but did a job when we needed some balance , fifty odd England caps as well, he never got the acknowledgement What he deserved in my eyes ,
Never bad mouthed the club he knew when his time was up for us and moved on gracefully,(Take note James Milner)
He would make a great pundit but too much decency with that fella to take that roll on.
