Garry Cook

Franny Lee grew up a Bolton fan.
Colin Bell grew up in the North East and was presumably originally a Newcastle supporter. I believe John Wardle used to watch United regularly until Dave Makin "converted" him.

Mike Summerbee grew up in the West Country, as did Tony Book. Yet these two carried the Premiership trophy out to the presentation just a few weeks ago. Should we have asked SWP & Nedum to do that instead?

No one is claiming that Cook was a perfect human being and his failure to deal with the email incident properly was staggeringly inept. Yet the good he did for the club far outweighs the bad.

Out of everyone on this thread, you're the only one I'd actually enjoying having an exchange with because you've answered questions and raised points of your own whilst everyone else has just taken the piss and, crucially, not made me think about anything they've said. My views on that odious slimeball haven't changed and the humiliation he must have felt upon leaving City always cheer me up when I'm down.

I hope you don't think I was taking the p***? I simply posted my views based on my meetings and interviews with all the key figures. It's my opinion and you're entitled to yours. We clearly disagree on this area but that's why it's important for us all to air our views. I've always tried to interview the key figures at City over the last 20 years some of whom I like, some I do not, but I always feel it's important to see all angles.

If you feel upset by anything I've said then I'm sorry, but I don't believe I've criticised you. I've simply expressed my opinion based on 100s of hours of interviews with the key figures - it's still only my opinion though.

Yes cookie made some gaffes but look at how he worked his bollocks off to get us players like tevez, silva, yaya etc!! Don't forget besides going public with the wrong statement which he admits was wrong, kaka!! Kaka said yes!

And why has every Blue got a signifcant opinion on Cook? Ask me what I thought of Alistair Mackintosh and I couldn't tell you. I didn't even know what he looked like yet Cook went for this celebrity CEO image and was just setting himself up again and again and again.

What too many people don't understand is that Cook is ultimately replaceable. Is he the only person in the world than can do his job? No.

The difference is Cook was the one who delivered vision, ambition, drive and leadership. Alistair Mackintosh is an accountant, no doubt now doing a worthy job at Fulham, but has done nothing memorable for either of us.

To illustrate the difference. I remember when Peter Swales got himself appointed Chairman, all bluster and swagger. To this day there are apologists for him who say he was a City fan and had the best interests of the Club at heart. I detested Swales for a catalogue of reasons that took City from being a top club to one on the brink of extinction.

Cook was the key figure in getting us back to the verytop where we could win trophies again. He saw the opportunity where others failed and secured the investment from ADUG. Swales was big on empty promises and relied on his cronys that saw his fortunes in the FA rise as Citys fell. Cook fronted up and was prepared to take flack for failures. Did not Malcom Allison big up City to raise our profile in the same way in the 1960's?

I never met Cook (or Swales or Mackintosh) so find it hard to understand why you described Cook as a "slimeball". My impression is Cook is focussed in what he does, is open, doesnt suffer fools and doesnt depend on cronyism. Gaffs apart, he won the trust of our owners so must have been doing something right. Why would we not recognise what Cook achieved for us?

Cook wasnt being paid to make friends. I can only guess you have personal reasons against him. Personally, I wish him well and hope he contines to be welcome at the Etihad.

So, to summarise, you like Khuldoon because he is class and you think Mancini was lucky? Here's one then, how can you trust in a person that puts his faith in someone you have such little respect for; his own choice by the way?

And, what's it got to do if I was there, in a dismissive way? Are you saying that because you turned up for a game or two that you have more of a say than myself, who also turns up for a game or two?

And last but not least, what about the Sheikh, is he worth your trust?

Oh, I spelt his name wrong, did I? Damn that pesky end of the week tiredness and first beer of the night... Mancini was lucky in Italy! Inter did NOT win that first trophy because they were handed it and the second was won because of the lack of threat from Juventus and Milan. His team did nothing in Europe (replicated with City) and he's won the Premiership on +/- with the U****d team being weak by their standards. We've got the biggest transfer budget in world football yet only just scraped a pot.

Yes, I trust Sheikh Mansour. I didn't trust Thaksin Shinawatra.

You dont need to make any apology Gary, your opinions are based on fact, whereas Peoffrey's seem to be based around hate!

If Cook was being paid to make friends then why did he insist on doing walkabouts in Europe and posing for photos with Blues (appearing on Facebook etc) and buying the drinks? My most well connected Blue friend met with Cook often enough and said the Guy used to claim he'd rather socialise with Fans than deal with the press. What on earth was he being paid to do?

And I don't have personal reasons against Garry Cook. Never have had and never will. I just felt his inability to speak publically about our Club caused incredible damage to how we're perceived by the world.

If I'd have met Cook then I'd honestly have shaken his hand and asked him a question or two about the Club. I care for how City are doing.

-- Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:15 am --

There's a difference between fact and opinion. And I don't hate the man. Far from it.

So why call him a slime ball. Would you tell him that after or before you shook his hand?
