Gas & Electricity

How do you feel about subsidising these utilities companies with your taxes as you pay for their profit margins, since you mention 'handouts', so scathingly?
I have no problem with handouts as long as they are used for the purpose they were made.
Cash into the bank is wrong in my opinion, credits against future bills was the right way to go.
My neighbour has blown hers already just bought a 58" smart TV, and she is on every benefit known to man.

You're complaining about money she's entitled to? By Gov law?

I see you've said nothing about Gov handouts to big companies? Are they deserving of Gov seeding money (taxes) as well as subsidies (taxes) as well as profits for shareholders?

Let's hear it.

I happily pay for fuel as and when I use it.
They are not using me as a credit facility.
I guess it's the principle, maybe the interest earned on a few hundred pounds doesn't equate to a holiday in the sun.
On the flip side Octopus have more then 3 million customers generating excess wonga to account.

In a cost of living crisis customers should be in charge of their own budgeting needs .. anyway how hard can it be to crack out an excel pie chart?

I doubt they’ll go sky high. The level of personal debt in the U.K. is far to high.
The facetious point I was alluding to is that Denis will keep his interest and quite rightly so rather than Octopus living off the money in a corporate Utopia.
Basically he is telling them to fuck off, and I respect him for that.

I’m doing it slightly the other way to build up a bit of credit for when the other half wants more heating than she needs int’winter.

I was about £330 in credit when Avro went under, now I am £880 in debit. No idea why that sum is so large. I sent them a reading when we transferred. Both my kids are uni bound in September , this house is getting de powered then.

Absolute plank on Good Morning Britain advocating we stop paying our bills and pay what we can afford.

Just a heads up for anyone with an old plasma telly.
I have (had now!) a 42" plasma tv that I'd had for maybe 12years.
It still worked perfectly, and I don't like getting rid of anything if it still works.
I bought one of those plug in power monitors off ebay for £12 and it showed the telly was drawing 430W!
Considering it is on 10hrs a day (should get out more) it was costing £1.25 a day in leccy.
That'll go up to £2.06 in Oct, £753 a year!

I've bought a 55" oled for £700 that draws about 100W and should pay for itself in <18months.

My 20yr+ chest freezer was also a disgrace and has also been binned.

Can’t remember if I asked

But my gas/electric went from £80 a month to now £190

What will I be looking at in January ?

Martin Lewis tonight suggesting it might be 78% now, so could be more.
How the fuck are people genuinely supposed to pay this? Mines gone from 88 a month to 192 now so I’m in the same area as it going to 300+ which is just fucking unthinkable. Makes me sick to my stomach just contemplating that.
