Interesting Tweet by one of the smarter football related guys on Twitter (possibly a Blue as well but he won't confirm!). It does make sense, he's been having a debate with Duncan Castles.

the whole thing doesn't add up to me; from my experience buying clubs establish player wages before approaching selling party

Manchester City are sparking a transfer war with Manchester United by making a late bid for Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder.

City are willing to pay the Dutch master £240,000 a week to match his salary demands and bring him to the Etihad in a dramatic raid on Serie A.

The two clubs, who meet in this afternoon’s Community Shield clash at Wembley, have been at loggerheads over targets since United tried to hijack Alex Sanchez’s move at the start of the summer – an attempt that hampered City’s pursuit of the Chilean striker who eventually signed for Champions League winners Barcelona.

I wonder what GDS will run with tomorrow, or what the other Italian media / Sky Italia are saying.

This only supports my earlier post about the media now spinning it that United are being prudent in not getting Sneijder whereas we, as usual, are ruining football with our money. Where the FUCK have they got an extra 40 grand a week from?!

So Damocles, based on what you know/have been told/believe ... are you :

a) moderately excited
b) VERY excited
c) HOLY SHITCAKES!!!

a) Moderately excited.

Info is info, and is open to interpretation/exaggeration/just plain Chinese whispers. On it's own, I'd never bother posting info because it can be taken hundreds of different ways. I my entire time here, I've posted 3 pieces. The first one was that we were interested in Ibra, which was later proved correct (this was very early, when Robbie was still here); the second was that we weren't interested in Nasri on the day that SSN broke the news that we had signed him (I still believe that SSN's backpeddling justified this) and this is the third. I regularly used to speak to Tolm and FBloke on PMs and exchange good info with them on things because it was always on a "good faith" basis, but they've gone now and I have nobody left to exchange stuff with who I trust explicitly and vice versa.
My point is, I don't usually post stuff on the main boards because I don't want to be seen as somebody who does post stuff on the boards. This is an exceptional case though.

The thing that makes this an exceptional case is that the stars have aligned between something that I heard earlier in the week, then something that I heard today that happened after I heard what I heard, then the story in Gazzetta. This created a simple timeline of events that all point towards a positive outcome.

The Gazzetta story is the key to everything here. People dismissing it out of hand are not thinking correctly. Firstly, I'll absolutely be nailed on and say that we are interested in Sneijder, it isn't a made up interest. Tolm said as much weeks ago and if it wasn't for a few shortsighted people, we'd all know a lot more now than we currently do which is pretty annoying. Compared to that guy, we're all blind men shooting in the dark and I do wish that we could convince him to come back as he is missed.

The story is important because (I think I've mentioned on more than a few occasions that I heavily follow Italian football and am learning the language) in Italy, these people care about their reputation and they are seen worldwide as a respected paper. They would not print this as some sort of game for United (and saying "done deal" is a pretty shitty way to negotiate a transfer to someone else), they would not print this because they're pissed at Moratti. If they've printed this, it's because they KNOW something is afoot.

I'm only moderately excited because it takes a highly arrogant individual to not question themselves when presented with the world and his wife saying no deal. I was extremely excited when I first read the Gazzetta piece and the constant denials have wore me down. Now I'm doubting and as confused as everybody else.

That said, the interest is definitely there. The negotiations seemingly happened between the clubs. The final piece was the sign off which Gazzetta said happened. So, that's about it really. You can all draw your own conclusions as that's pretty much as specific as I can get, and I'm still probably going to get shitlisted for that

Ok, Nasri, Silva, Yaya Toure Sneijder, Balo, Dzeko, Aguero, maybe Tevez and another imminent signing.

These are all players who are pretty much first team players in any squad they're bought into. Are you telling me we can accomodate all of them?

Even Real Madrid couldn't manage that....
