Yes right there's only 3 voters looking for a party ready to do the sensible thing regarding Europe, when the 2 main parties are to scared to.

It’s a big area of Labour policy I don’t really get.

All the polling suggests there is strong public appetite for a closer relationship to Europe big buyers remorse amongst Brexit voters (who saw that coming, eh….)

Labour would increase their already pretty iron grip on the centre ground by coming out with more pro-EU policy but they’re still terrified of going near it.

I think it’s quite simple, Labour are absolutely terrified of looking pro-immigration. Just like they are terrified of looking like the party of high taxes.

Anything that makes them look “friendly” to international diplomacy they see as a risk because they think it will cause them to lose voters to Reform. Whether that’s true or not, or whether it would make a difference is another question.

Labour are playing for the 0-0 draw that wins them the league by having no opinions worth noting. And that might be fine. A general increase in competent governance could get us moving in the right direction at least. But it doesn’t capture the imagination or offer a sense of hope, does it?

I’m impressed by the Lib Dem’s manifesto, I think they’ve really captured that ideological gap that Labour are leaving wide open. Pro-trade and international cooperation, pro-green industry and investment, pro-legalisation of cannabis to create a new growth industry, pro-rebuilding the welfare state, starting with social care guarantees and more GPs. It’s a sensible but strong manifesto.

My one sticking point for them is still housing. They are quoting 380,000 new houses a year. Firstly, I’m not really convinced that’s ambitious enough given the NIMBYism prevalent that the Lib Dems have fostered in some of their local campaigning. Secondly, the one thing Starmer is right about is the need to overhaul planning laws.

I will reserve further judgment until I see Labour’s manifesto but I think the Lib Dems have set the bar high with this in terms of alignment to my personal philosophy.

I’m becoming more inclined to vote Lib Dem by the day tbh.

I think it was Daisy Cooper’s impressive performance in the debate that tipped me, but I like a lot of this manifesto.

Combined with my new MP being a raging Momentum nutter.

I wish Starmer well though and am looking forward to him winning with a big majority.

I have just read an argument in another place that Starmer's proposal to create more courts to deal with rape is impractical because, irrespective of funds, we do not have the capacity in (physical) courts, judges or lawyers.

If that criticism is valid, this country is more royally fucked than I had imagined. Because we can no longer deliver justice, one of the most basic functions of government. I just don't know what to say. It's scarcely believable.
Thought Sunak had 10,000 Judges and hundreds of courts avail for Rwanda claims
