Ok, cheers. FWIW, I agree with both those points. The spending plans looked fantastic on paper and if it was 30 years ago, I might’ve fallen for it, but Corbyn buttering up to the IRA was a huge red flag for me too. His handling of the anti-Semitism issue turned me away from him as well. Thing is, I couldn’t vote Tory this time round either - they have similar issues with Islamophobia in their party and I thought Johnson’s decision to prorogue parliament was bang out of order. That was baffling as I don’t think he even needed to do it anyway to get his Brexit deal through. The Lib Dems have been my safe haven in the previous 2 elections but Swinson saying she’d just cancel Brexit even without putting it to a 2nd referendum turned me away from them, and Farage wants us out without a deal which isn’t the type of Brexit I want. In the end, I turned up at the polling station, briefly thought about voting Green for all of about 3 seconds, and did what I said I was going to do for months and that was to scrawl NONE across the ballot paper.

I think the result could be a blessing in a way. While Johnson’s large majority can be dangerous on the one hand, it should mean he’s not as reliant on the far-right within his party, plus there’s little appetite for far left politics in this country so hopefully we’ll see Labour move towards the centre-left and if they can get a competent leader with minimal baggage then they should be in a position to pounce on any Tory fuck-ups.

Sorry mate I can’t reply to this in full.

Works Xmas do started an hour ago so I’m not in a position to.

I’ll reply in the morning.

Apologies.

Is that the one where Sid James plays The Rumpo Kid?

It's not a catchy title, I'll admit

Sorry, but what are you on about?

Until the left actually takes a good long hard look at itself and realises that it's policies don't appeal to the British public rather than blaming everything except themselves then there's no chance of a left leaning Goverent in this country.

You & your ilk seem utterly unable to have even any hint of self-reflection.

To be fair, there’s quite a few policies that do have support with the public. The problem was their manifesto was way too large, went too extreme in places and they had a leadership team that couldn’t sell it to anyone outside of their own bubble.

It doesn’t help that the media is predominately right wing, but then they have to factor that in and put in a leader that is a salesman rather than someone that doesn’t just not appeal but people will never consider voting for. That and one very good thing Blair did to counter the media was put in a rapid response team that countered some of the more extreme rhetoric.

It still needs a manifesto capable of being sold
though, which this one wasn’t.

there is a quote from one guy , his grandad was labour mayor , he voted Tory for the first time in his life.

he said he felt bad, he said it felt like putting your dog down, you don’t want to do it but you know in the long term it’s the right decision.

Victim, villain or saviour - I think that’s a great way putting Labour’s and Corbyn’s view of people

In 2005 Labour were returned to power with just over 35% of the vote and a 66 seat majority. Quite scary really how 1st past the post can create a government (and its policies) with just over a third of the vote. BTW the turnout was 61.4%
Honestly don't know why you persist with FPTP.
PR isn't perfect either, but creating multi-seat constituencies seems more democratic, to me.

Which country? England? Then yes. Scotland? No. Northern Ireland. Hell no.

Your reminder that we are a union of four seperate countries and two out of the four are at odds with the other two.
Just swap the map for one of the United Kingdom then

The newspapers may be predominantly right leaning because they rely on readership, but no way are the tv media - they don't even try to hide their left leaning bias.
