Why does it matter? If we give them the bonus anyway they don't need to sit tight for 12 months to get it. They can go and get a guaranteed wage , for 2 or 3 years.

Why can't they do that after getting another years worth of salary from us, leave on a free, pocket the loyalty bonus and receive a signing on bonus from their next team?

Well maybe we need to be a little less sentimental in future. No one would advocate selling Zabs last year or even Silva this (as an example) but we may have to start selling players when they are on the decline but stock still high. It's a fine line though.

This is the key for me, nobody wants to pay good money for a player perceived to be coming to the end of his career. As much has i hate baconface he was never afraid to move a big name on at the right time.

I would guess, its an incentive to keep players happy and stop them looking for new teams during the length of their agreed contracts. A thank you for staying loyal..You hear of players handing in transfer requests or using other teams for pay increases but very rare for a city player to do this, so maybe this is the reason why? Just a guess...

Longer contract. Guaranteed salary for a longer period. Year younger so could negotiate a better salary. Maybe even for the thought of playing every week instead of just taking the money.

makes the signing of Nolito silly when push comes to shove a Sane/Kroos/Bonucci & fullbacks is far more important and we will end up missing out on them and stuck with a squad winger.

Txiki has to get this half-dozen off the books and bring the A-list new signings in or not even Pep will work the miracles with the lazy hangers-on dragging the squad down for the 4th time in 5 seasons. Over-priced HG is a complement, not the foundation. I've already seen enough of Yaya plodding around like a donkey this season and he only came off the bench, he's an embarrassment.

All on Txiki this, he's caused this mess, now he has to cut them and bring in the talent we need.

I can understand putting that in a contract for world class players of a good age but it does seem the powers that be have made an error here.

So why are you not including Soriano and Khaldoon in this mess ? They are Txikis bosses and would have to to sanction any new contracts anyway.

We'll have to disagree on this one mate.
I personally think that Zabba or Navas (for example ) could easily get 60-70% of the money they are on now over a 2-3 year contract if they stay with us for another year first.
