General UFC thread

Oh and on looking at that 3rd round again, there was a tonne of help from grabbing inside of Khabibs left glove constantly in that round and that's what Khabib was complaining of between rounds.

Both Khabib and Conor suspended pending a board review, could be indefinite, according to NSC
So apparently they have been banned by Nevada State Commission, but does that suspension in turn cover IMMAF or even UMMAF? Because the way i'd understand it is that would leave them being open to fight anywhere else and a fight at MSG sounds doable although fairly dangerous, considering the large Irish heritage they have there. I think it only fair to fine them both and caution Khabib from doing something similar in the future. UFC should also be fined. Other than that, i don't personally think its such a big deal.

I'm glad we're talking about the fight now instead of the circus :)

So w.r.t Laquinta, he was taken down at will and throughout his career he has shown his a good wrestling base. I don't believe you can take that fight as a context for judging Khabib's takedown acumen as he has shown that he can, consistently, takedown fighters throughout his career. If you can name me a fighter that had any period of success (bar a Michael Johnson shot that is wildly overrated by Rogan) then i'm all ears.

Agree his accuracy was off, but he's not usually worrying about being taken down as much. The only pure bread wrestler he fought was Mendes and he double legged him and kept him there (IIRC) and then clearly gassed. Eddie Alvares is a great wrestler but he's never chosen to use that skill in his fights, he's ALWAYS been hit-able and that was clearly going to be a bad match up against a sniper like Connor.

I do agree that he can defo improve on his wrestling defence if just to nullify some of the attempts, but the KEY to everything IMO would be to learn more than hip escapes and learning to not fall into Khabib's traps after he takes him down. I think Khabib has sufficient enough understanding of the stand up game to last there and an overwhelming advantage in the clinch to control the fight.

I'm sure you've already listened to the JRE with Coach Kavanaugh, looks like they had analysed Khabib and knew they would be in certain positions but couldn't stop them.

As for legacy, i think Connor's legacy is cemented win or lose. The fight i REALLY want to see is his vs Holloway because the first was a good scrap and Holloway has improved a lot since that fight and so has Connor.

I haven't watched the whole interview with Coach Kavanaugh(that feels so weird to print so close to the Supreme Court Justice's antics!) and I agree that they worked on the whole takedown situation. I have a feeling, though, that McGregor's coach was coy and not saying too much and I think this was a 'feeling out' process as much as anything else(acknowledging ring rust and gassing, etc.).

I think they'll build on their current information and train accordingly.

I'm not a McGregor fan, but I just see holes in Nurmagomedov's games that McGregor can take advantage of.

As for Holloway/ McGregor? Fook McGregor, let's see Holloway/ Ferguson!! Those two would BANG at 155LBS.

I would love it!

What 10 days? What was the point??

Well, if Nurmagomedov's threat about quitting the UFC if any of his team are banned from fighting goes through, then none of it will matter!!

Now you mention it, Holloway vs Ferguson would be THA SHIT! I thought Pettis was doing ok in the Ferguson fight but you for Ferguson to comeback from what he has and win is amazing, although i think he's a proper weirdo.

Khabib can make those threats but he wont be able to get out of a UFC contract, they are notoriously tough to deal with when it comes to breaking contracts. I do however agree with him that it's completely unfair how McGregor or Lobov didn't get sacked but they use a different rule for other fighters. I thought Daley being banned for what he did at the time was spot on but the way they treated other fighters for doing similar/worse things and allowing them back shows me they only give a shit about the sport if you're not making them tonnes of money.

No, I agree. Dana White is a sh*thouse when it comes to fighters that are not McGregor.

I'm surprised he hasn't lost a whole roster full of fighters cos of it!

Pettis was a weird one. He was looking for a way out, actually. I'm sure I've seen him fight with a broken hand before and he just changed his output.

But this Ferguson fight shrunk his heart. I don't know what happened to him. Maybe he saw 'death' or whatever and can be legitimate in the ring when you're fighting someone who doesn't seem to quit!

He's not the same Pettis although he's trying convince himself that he is and I don't rate his brother Sergio at all!!

Imagine how demoralising it must be having to fight someone with stamina like that though, I think he just knew with offence being diminished from the broken hand he would just get slaughtered.

I honestly can't believe Ferguson did all his own physio for his knee lmao the guy is a machine.

Khabib vs. Ferguson - Lightweight Title.
Conor vs. Diaz - Winner gets Khabib.

I also want to see Cormier vs. Lesnar should he get past Lewis and Jones vs. Miocic/Cain if he gets past Gus...

Yeah, I know. I think I'm just being harsh cos he didn't 'leave it all in the ring'.

I mean, look at Derrick fookin' Lewis getting that KO with a broken finger!! Pettis had other weapons that he neglected to use. He has awesome elbows, but he was cloudy in his thoughts and wanted out.

But, as you rightly point out, seeing the Machine just keep coming was probably what broke him!

Lewis ain't fighting unless he thinks he can get a win in one round.

He already admits his cardio sucks great big sweaty balls, right now.
