General UFC thread

Nope, i did read somewhere that he said he didn't want Khabib next though, assume thats because he wants a quick fight?

Interesting, he holds the aces and Croke Park could definitely handle it, whether the rest of the Irish infrastructure could - i'm not sure.

£50m is brilliant for him and i understand he is the ace in the hole, but it's a disgrace when you look at it hand in hand with the other fighters pay. There are fighters that have been paid $10000 on this card, how are they supposed to live off that?

Yeah he wants a quick fight to keep himself sharp, the Khabib fight would probably be in the summer he wants it in Moscow but Dana has said no haha.

The pay situation is what it is Connor is the reason for the PPV, it's like comparing Messi wages to Jones. But he has helped bring new fans ect to UFC so overall each fighter will benefit as that money trickles down and it keeps growing and growing into a bigger sport.

I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about! Cerrone just happens to be a happy-go-lucky guy unless you piss him off. He can stand and bang with the best of them on his night.

As for 'old', he's 36. 5 years older than McG.

I think I do have a clue what I am talking about, Cerrone is past it, was coming off two KO losses and was clearly mellow all fight week and there for a pay day. He starts fights slowly and was tailor made for McGregor, it was as close to a gimme as you could possibly get. No way should he be anywhere near a title shot off the back of that but it's most likely, the fanboys who follow him are hailing 'the king is back' it truly is cringe. The UFC is a circus act now, just pandering to this idiot. I did notice he isn't calling out Khabib tho, and even if his humility is completely fake at least Khabib smacked some manners into him.

What are the options; Masvidal, good fight most likely Masvidal knocks him out
Khabib, he'd get battered again
Usman, he would get totally wrestle f**ked and stopped
Gaethje, young fresh fighter who would take him into deep waters and probably stop him when he gasses in the second round as usual
Nate Diaz, perhaps the most viable option, the trilogy and a competitive fight.

He called Khabib out straight away so what you on about?

I remember when people said that Mendes would slaughter him in the stand up and be too clever on the mat, then people said Also would smother him and beat him into submission, then the same people said Alverez would toy with him in then wrestle then pull his body apart....

To cut a long story short he sparked all 3 out, even though he had "no chance"

Yeah Moscow is not a good idea, UFC would not be able to control that situation and he just wouldn't be safe.

The problem isn't that Conor is getting paid so much, he deserves it, the problem is the money isn't trickling down. Since i've been watching MMA (since the 90s) this has been the norm for $10k and it's still happening now in 2020. They need a union ASAP, but the UFC really don't want it.

I think he KO's Gaethje. Justin is a strange fighter, he was a standout wrestler but doesn't take anyone down and his striking is based on taking some to give some, that is completely the wrong attitude against a sniper like Conor. Say what you want about McGregor but it's undeniable he has brilliant timing,

Nobody ever said Mendes (who took the fight on VERY short notice) would beat Conor standing and everyone pretty much thought he was a bad match up for Eddie Alvarez. The Tony Ferguson fight is the one to make IMO, Tony has (up until now) managed to always survive when he's cracked and comeback to dominate with his insane cardio. I wanna see if he can do that against someone with the precision of Conor.

Haha seriously have you made that up? Mendes was about a foot shorted and had a two week camp before that fight, no one with an ounce of MMA knowledge thought that, and have you or these 'people' ever seen Aldo fight, he doesn't 'smoother' anyone. As for Alvarez, come on now that fight was made for Connor to become the 155 champion, if Ferguson or Khabib held the belt at that time no way would Connor have come up from 145 for the title shot. The levels of delusion that surround McGregor are staggering
