General Videogame Thread

Is the PlayStation convention today?

I'm hoping they show some GOW4 footage and maybe a teaser for FF7R Part 2 but one can dream

Thursday I thought...

This is music to my ears.

Also mentioning 'This in turn is supposed to be a counter to the PlayStation 5 Slim model, which is alleged to be launching in late 2022.'

I'm not too keen on the PS5 currently with it's lack of games and the console itself is blimin' massive. Hopefully those two issues will be gone by then.

Microsoft are also releasing a bigger marketing banner on games to let you know that exactly the same game looks a bit nicer on the £500 new kit.

Underwhelmed by my series X would be an understatement...I think my tv can upscale HD to something approximating 4k on its own

What does this even mean? Don't tell me your another one who can't tell the difference between HD and 4K?

To be fair mate that's not uncommon, I genuinely can't tell the difference when viewing a film although I have no experience in actually playing a game in 4K.

Your eyesight the distance you are sat from the screen and the size of your screen all come into play.

I plugged it a while back but seeing as it's been out now for a couple of weeks and is showing it's promise as a game of the year contender I can wholeheartedly recommend Psychonauts 2. It's such a rare treat of creativity that it deserves to sell by the bucketload. Doublefine are such a talented studio and Tim Schafer is a legend of videogaming. If you have Gamepass it's free so there's no reason not to give it a go.

Got game pass so will give that a go. It looks beautiful.
cheers.

I think it depends on your TV, whether it does good HDR and the distance you sit from it. My OLED looks stunning and I sit about 6 foot from it, still looks good further away but not as impressive as nearer. Can’t wait to get my 77 inch one and sit about 6 foot away, I saw one in Costco today absolutely beautiful.

Mind if I ask what size TV you use? Glad someone brought this up because i'm currently in the market for an OLED. At the min I just have a 40 inch 4k ULTRA HD TV, but i'm sat 5/6ft away and it doesn't take much room. Regardless, i'm going up in size but I'm not sure if to opt for 48 or 55.

Got a PS5 through EE the other day, wasn't really expecting to get one this year but got lucky. Thought I would push the boat out for an OLED TV now it's here.

What this means my good man is with a bit of electro trickery i dont think it is very hard to simulate higher resolutions, things like Blu-ray players have been upscaling for years. The games coming out for xbox xs, are just xbox one games with an enhanced sticker on the box and my guess would be the series X just upscales something at its core is just an xbox one game (i have over simplified the matter i'm sure)

Not all Xbox X/S games are just upscaled xbox one games. The majority of new games coming out for Xbox and all first-party games are being made specifically with the Series X/S in mind.

Games like Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite will be in native 4K with ray-tracing and running up to 120FPS if you have the right TV

Stuff like that is absolutely not possible in the last generation of consoles. Games like Watch Dogs Leigon and Assassins Creed Valhalla have recently been upgraded by Ubisoft to run 4K 60 FPS with ray tracing. Bethesda have just also upgraded Doom Eternal to run at 4K up to 120FPS

The Series X actually improves nearly every xbox one game no matter what generation and I'm talking about the original xbox games from 2001 to 360 and xbox one games. Either the frame rate will be improved or graphics or even adding HDR to games, so long as the original publisher give their approval, Microsoft will enhance the game if they can

Finished Control last night. Thought it was excellent but the ending was a bit lacking.. ideas nicked from The Lost Room tv series, which isn’t a bad thing. Started A Plague Tale which looks great graphically and the stealth premise is always a winner.

Fair points well made, personally having played Watchdogs and currently playing Val Halla I can't see anything that warrants a £500 upgrade.

I’ve got a 55 inch LG OLED mate cost me just under £1k last year, if I’d had funds and space I’d have gone for 65 inch. Go for a 55 but don’t skimp you can pick up and LG OLED for £1k brilliant for gaming and films.

My TV is a 1 yr old 43” Panasonic LCD and I sit c3 metres away generally and there’s a huge improvement with 4K images in the available free 4K You Tube stuff. I had an ordinary 1080p when I first bought my PS4 Pro a few years ago and the Upscaling made a huge difference to the ordinary PS4 image and the difference between this and what I see on my new 4k one doesn’t seem much to me

Cheers. Been edging towards a 55. Just not sure if I’m going with the LG or Sony Bravia yet.

enjoyed the trailers for wolverine and Spiderman 2 for Ps5.

Just a shame its likely 2023 we will see them.

Nice to see in spiderman 2 they will be having some of the voice cast from venom film etc.

GTA 5 delayed until March 2022.

Really excited for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
