General Videogame Thread

Eesssh. Yeah, fully made my mind up now. Not going near it. Was so, so excited for this, and im gutted as it looks like the guy even enjoys the game's actual gameplay, but unless they make it vastly better i'm just not gonna bother. Can't stand that level of bugginess. Frequent crashes aren't alright either. Might've accepted it on my N64 back in the day, but not now.

Yeah. I am definitely glad I sniffed something a few weeks ago and didn’t pre-order, especially given I am just on PS4.

Jealous you have the new shiny toy, though!

Interesting that. My mate reviewed it for VGC and he really enjoyed the story and side quests: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/reviews/cyberpunk-2077/

From what i've read people do enjoy the actual game side of it!
Just wrote a longer response and then lost it all due to a BM page crash (the irony)!

I will summarise — probably better use of your time, anyway — by saying I have heard mixed reviews from the three people I know currently playing CP (two on PS5, one on higher-end gaming PC). I have also read other mixed reviews of the main story and game world from professional outlets, but will give this a look!

My mate on the PC seems to enjoy it the most, but a general theme seems to be that the side quests/story lines are more interesting than the main story.

I am more disappointed in the obvious con, especially from CDPR (which is separate from just releasing a game before it is ready), but agree that the feedback I have heard about the story is not overly encouraging, as well.
Don’t know if you’ve come across an Aussie YouTube channel called Skill Up, but he’s my favourite video game reviewer. His review is nearly an hour long and he says it’s not even a great RPG, the crafting and skill trees etc are broken and effectively pointless. He says it’s a better action shooter than it is an RPG, which is not even what it’s supposed to be.

I haven’t seen this but will give it a watch. I am much more of an immersive world RPG player than a FPS player (the Deus Ex and Fallout series, with a few exceptions, have been my favourites for years), so this is very disappointing to hear, as it was most definitely meant to be primarily an RPG with some action shooter mechanics.

One of my mates who is playing on PS5 did say he wasn’t sure some of the skill trees were even viable given the common gameplay loop and most advantageous methods of approaching the majority of missions (i.e. wasted skill point spends). The one on PC also said the world feels more shallow than he expected; it is dense, and visually stunning when running on a top-end machine, but there is less overall interactivity than he thought there would.

But I have also heard that the general gameplay is still fun, barring the unavoidable frustrating glitches like this one that sometimes force you to revert to a previous save, and that some of the disappointment may be down to the ridiculous hype surrounding the game that has skewed expectations toward the unreasonable.

Still, given everything I have seen, heard, and read, happy I saved my money for now.

Very disappointing to read about so many console owners having a shit time trying to play Cyberpunk, especially when folks were so excited to play it. It does appear obvious that CDPR have pulled the wool over console owners' eyes regarding how finished the game is for consoles which is a shitty thing all round.

I'm fortunate that I'm getting the 'optimal' version of the game at present, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm sure the Playstation and X Box versions will be patched to the expected standard in due course but it is a kick in the balls from CDPR.

Quick question. Is anyone running Cyberpunk 2077 on a 2070 Super at 60fps? I'm watching some YouTube videos and it looks great but is the DLSS good at 1440p?

I have the R5 3600 and will be playing the game from an M.2 drive. Thanks.

I've done about four hours tonight. The gameplay itself is okay, the detail and etiting for the quests are fantastic. But the game itself is a buggy mess, graphics and textures pop in and out, its so clear that this game is nowhere near ready for console.

I'm going to delete my save and wait a few months until it gets properly patched. I'm disappointed in CDPR.

I've already deleted it. Shame on them. Sold us a lie
