Are Nintendo trying to cut retail partners out as much as possible atleast for the launch?

Looking at the physical pricing I think GAME doesn't have long left before if folds. They're hidden away inside Sports Direct shops anyway but for how long...
Possibly but unlikely I think.

Could be they don't have enough stock until Christmas and they probably seen the PS5 shit launch with the scalpers getting them all and selling them for ridiculous prices

£395.99 or £429.99 with MarioKart World.

Pre ordering is mental.

You MUST have an active Nintendo online + expansion for at least 2 years. Got that.

You MUST of opted in to Nintendos data sharing scheme. Done that.

You MUST have played a certain amount of hours on the switch but Nintendo haven't confirmed the amount.

If you meet that criteria Nintendo will email asking if you want to pre order

They'll be like rocking horse shit then :-(

I still haven’t updated to a ps5 or a series x, not seen any games yet that made me think I must get one…

Wise choice. Only two games I've played that have felt proper next gen are Cyberpunk and Shadows.

Me too. I like to stay a bit behind the times so all the games are cheaper, with the added advantage of all the bugs being fixed. The last new game I played was Assassin's Creed Mirage, and that came out in 2023. It worked perfectly fine. Long gone are the days where the Master System version was a pale imitation of the Mega Drive version. These days, the games are basically identical with a bit less detail and a lower frame rate. I bought one of the Star Wars Jedi games for 4 quid the other day. There are some games now that require a PS5, but they're still pretty few and far between.

Also when I was a kid, consoles went down in price. These days, they seemingly just stay the same price forever. When I was a kid, the N64 was released before Christmas, if I remember correctly at something like £270. By Easter, it was £130, and by next Christmas, it was about £100. The PS5 is over four years old and they still want £430 for a disc version. It's insane.

Yup, think the prices are ridiculous and it’s not been a big enough leap to warrant it at all.

Really feels like a bit of a pointless generation to me.

Xbox Series S ain't a bad deal. I bought one last year. Digital games though. I moved over from PS4 for Games Pass, which I search around the internet for for cheaper monthly or 3 monthly subscriptions.
I have since bought a Series X too so the missus uses the S for when we wanna play online together. I also like the option of cheaper disc games off eBay etc. Recently bought Cyberpunk for a tenner for Xbox One that automatically updated to Series X version.

Fun fact. The base PS5 has actually increased in price since launch.

Going to be interesting to see whether Nintendo up the price of the switch 2 for americans with the tariffs or eat the cost themselves.

As mad as it sounds. If Nintendo pass on the costs to the Yanks, as they should, this could be something that actually causes some genuine serious backlash towards Trump and his clown show. making them pay potentially as much as 40% more than what is already a higher than anticipated price will get a lot of people angry.

Would not be surprised if the japanese government are quietly pushing Nintendo to do exactly that.

Is that in one specific place or an across the board policy? I think that's a superb idea, scalping has become a serious problem everywhere in anything with limited availability.

You couldn't get a ps5 for over a year partly because of the pandemic and the issues that brought with it but mainly because of scalpers and bots buying up all stock and flogging them for a profit.

I'm not into it myself but I'm aware that we're currently seeing a similar thing with new pokemon cards, scalpers are buying up entire restocks at oncr and selling them on at inflated prices.

These hoops Nintendo have added to get a console put a real barrier infront of scalpers, they can't have dozens of several year old accounts and if they somehow do, it'll cost them more than they'll make.

They'll probably still be hard to get initially and youll definitely get people trying to make money from it but at least you aren't going to see people taking out loans to buy up dozens of them at once and flog them for double the price on ebay.

I'm not interested in getting one but fair play to Nintendo for doing that. They could easily not give a shit as ultimately who they sell to doesn't having any impact on them.

For those looking for a Switch 2 I've just managed to preorder one on Very. No idea how many more they'll have so I'd get on there sharpish if you want one.

Emails invites for presale from Nintendo doing the rounds more now. I got mine at lunch.

they are basing it on how much use you have of your switch, invites last 24h. I probably clocked 150h+ in the last 12/18 months.

EE and Argos seem to be getting stock of preorders quite regularly.

So glad my kids haven't asked for a switch 2. There's no way I'd be able to pay £75 for a new game without feeling so sick I'd be unable to enjoy it!

That said, the youngest had asked if we can get Two Point Museum, and I have to admit I'm slightly interested myself, could be fun.

I think Nintendo diverted Chinese built units to Europe after trump went mental

That's the nature of the beast, mate. If we factor inflation over the last twenty years or so, then this is a pretty standard price for AAA first party titles. Mario Kart World will be catering to basically everyone; hardcore gamers, old-school Nintendo fans, families and kids; imagine you get 200+ hours of gameplay over the consoles lifespan(usually 6-7 years), then you've spent just over 30p per hour you've played.

Looking at it in those terms, it seems a fairer price. If they start charging £70+ for lesser titles, that will lead to justifiable uproar.

Used to pay that kind of money 30 years ago so no difference today

SNES games were up to £60 back in the early 90’s. With inflation they would be £130 odd now.

PS1 games were £40/50 odd.

While I agree that £75 seems pricey it’s really not when compared to what we used to pay.
