General Videogame Thread

Really annoyed that fallout 3 and oblivion are being remastered. Not because of the lack of new ideas in re-hashing new games, not because of the fact that games like Skyrim have been rereleased so many times it's getting pathetic now, but because I know full well I'm probably going to lose most of my free time to them, and just compound the issues of my backlog further.

Particularly fallout 3, that and New Vegas I must have spent over a thousand hours combined on various platforms. I remember being ill when I started Fallout 3 and taking time off work, and literally not seeing sunlight for probably two weeks.

Fallout 3 is an absolute masterpiece. New Vegas is fantastic but F3 was an absolute game changer

Anyone know if there are any decent 3rd party ps5 controllers?

Between me and the kids, we have gone through 5 over the years due to the drifting issue that seems to plague this console.

Begrude 50-60 quid a pop as sony are clearly not interested in rectifying the issue.

They are pure trash aren’t they. I paid 60 for a new one only 3 months ago and it’s already unusable due to the drift. Outrageously bad quality for the money they charge.

Is this drifting a common thing then? My sons started doing it last week, so naturaly dad had fix it without fail.
Followed a you tube video on how to open them up and clean the sensors inside, but no dice.
Ive given him mine, so on the lookout for a cheap and cheerfull one.

Anyone playing DayZ?

I dismissed it as just another zombie killing game but one recent night down a youtube rabbit hole i found out I was wrong. Having watched a good few hours of footage i'm thinking of jumping in.

I know how late to the party I am, and to top it all i will be doing it on console so i can have a squad with my lads.

recommend or pants alternatives?
Love it. One of the best open world games you will ever play. The jeopardy can’t be compared to any other RPG game that you can save and redo. It’s all or nothing.

Iv put hrs into it and still only really doing ok at it. I play more a solo role, every now again you meet a player who does not shoot on sight.

The game makes you paranoid and afraid. The only advise i would give which is don’t get attached to loot. You will die many times.

Enjoy. Can’t recommend it enough. A true one of a kind experience.

Do you know if it works on a Steam Deck?

I occasionally get drift on the left joystick but I just blew air down the gap and it clears it. I think it's just dust build up.

Dust can be the problem or if you are a bit aggressive with the thumb sticks you can damage the resistive carbon tracks on the potentiometers.

Noticed that there are some companies now making replacement "hall effect" (magnetic) potentiometers which should be very reliable, but unless you are decent with a soldering iron or have a hot air rework station its not a simple task swapping them out.

Its unforgiving as fuck, had some cunts shoot me whilst changing my jumper and some other Fresh Spawn run 200 meters just to try and kill me with a butter knife, absolutely loving it even though i starve to death twice an hour :)

The inventory system sucks big time on console, i would imagine is much more straight forward on P.C.

Its free on Xbox Live Core so i will get better on console and probz buy the PC version soon

just looked on steam forum for day z it does work but not fully optimized

Rust was the best for that.

After a somewhat mixed first impression of blue prince a couple of weeks ago, I can safely say the game is brilliant. A truly unique game, one that will stick in the memory for years. Managed to platinum it too which involves reaching room 46 on the first day on a fresh save, anybody that has played the game will know how near impossible that is. Highly recommend it,

I'd say avoid looking things up if you can resist, it makes the game infinitely better however I can understand why some things might want to be looked up as missing chances to do things that don't come up very often because you haven't figured out other things yet to know what to do, only to then have to spend ages trying to recreate those situations can be annoying.

I would suggest opening it up first before you write it off. Could easily just be a case of having a bit of debris or dust stuck in there. If you don't know how to, a YouTube guide will walk you through it, it's very easy and all you'll need is a screwdriver and something to pry open a few parts. Give it a good clean, preferably with compressed air or a cleaner but if you haven't got that stuff, just a standard cotton bud might do the trick and a lot of the time, that will fix the problem. Takes 10-15 minutes max

If that doesnt work its likely the potentiometer is knackered. You could also look into changing the potentiometers or even the whole stick but that involves a bit more work, you'd need a soldering iron, and likely access to some software on a laptop to recalibrate it afterwards, even buying all the stuff though would be considerably cheaper than forking out for a new controller, if you're willing to go that far.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Wow. Absolute masterpiece, a must-play whether you like turn-based combat or not. If you think you don’t, this is the kind of game that will make you realise you actually do. Incredible experience and one of the best games ever created in gaming history.

Expedition 33 is the best game I've ever played and I've been gaming since I was 5

Unbelievable game.

Couldn't have put it better myself

I grew up playing turned based RPGs, looks mad seeing a modern new take on the genre. Not really playing anything but Mechabellum atm so might buy it.
