Jake's alive by the grace of God and DDP. Martel is a trainer IIRC, teaching younger guys how to wrestle

Marel has a good shoot interview here, filmed recently:

Ah i remember the Texas Tornado died which was sad, have not watched it in a while as it is not as good, is Brutus the Barber Beefcake still going and what about Greg the Hammer Valentine

Re: Royal Rumble On Tonight

Tornado was from one of those "cursed families" and has a bigger story than just the WWF.

Tornado was called Kerry Von Erich, from the Von Erich wrestling family. His Dad, Fritz Von Erich was a huge deal in the 50s and 60s and eventually bought a "territory" called World Class Championship Wrestling. You have to understand that whilst WWF was the only wrestling show shown over here, the US had a cartel like agreement called the National Wrestling Alliance whereby each federation could only promote shows in certain areas. This worked for the benefit of all as back in them days there were only local TV stations rather than national TV stations, so each federation had it's own TV show in it's own area with it's own wrestler and many of them were very successful, drawing 20,000 a week to their shows. Vince McMahon broke his agreement, stole everybody's best wrestlers and promoted worldwide. WWE are the Manchester United of wrestling.

When Fritz Von Erich bought World Class Championship Wrestling, he made his sons the "babyfaces" (good guys) of the show. This was because babyfaces make you the money in merchandising and in a cutthroat world of 30 different territories, talent stealing was rife. Hulk Hogan started in AWA rather than WWF as did Sgt Slaughter, Mr Perfect and many others made their name their like Shawn Michaels.

Anyway, Fritz had 5 lads called Kevin, Chris, David, Kerry, and Mike. All of these were trained from birth to be the top "good guys" in World Class Championship Wrestling to varying degrees. They had an enormously successful series of matches with a team called The Freebirds which included Michael Hayes/Doc Hendrix who used to manage the Hardy Boyz in WWF and is now on their "creative staff" (the people who write the story lines and determine the match ending).

It was a case of too much too soon for all of the Von Erichs. Kevin is alive, Chris, Mike and David committed suicide, and Kerry (Texas Tornado) died from a painkiller overdose, a common problem in wrestling.

Texas Tornado also only had one foot which is an interesting fact. His other was a prosthetic.

is Brutus the Barber Beefcake still going and what about Greg the Hammer Valentine

Brutus Beefcake is alive and well. He is Hulk Hogan's best mate and Hulk tries to get him employed anywhere that he goes though he's semi-retired and doing one off shows for the payday every now and again.

Greg Valentine is 62 and still working on the odd independent event that run in local gyms or high schools. He's healthy enough and the WWE brings him in for a big payoff every now and again.

Also; yes, yes, I know

Another AWA talent stolen by Vince McMahon. The "Road Warriors" were so hugely popular that a massive crowd reaction to a surprise is still known as a "Road Warrior Pop". Cena has been criticised for never receiving a Road Warrior Pop, unlike Austin.

Another one taken via heart attack.

-- Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:36 pm --

Austin demonstrates a Road Warrior Pop at :27

I havent watched for years, but i loved the pop when Vince looked like someone stuck a poker up his arse and JR just shouts STONE COLD STONE COLD STONE COLD. I loved the ultimate warrior when i was younger (great pop when he beat Honky Tonk man for the intercontinental title) but Stone cold was funny as you like 3:16 says i just whipped your ass!! And thats the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so.
