BARNSLEY 0-2 WALSALL
Manchester City loanee George Evans scored on his debut as Walsall claimed their first league victory at Barnsley in over 44 years.
After a goalless first half, the impressive Evans drilled the Saddlers ahead on 62 minutes.
Former-Barnsley winger Milan Lalkovic sealed the win when he coolly slotted home with 18 minutes remaining.
Walsall settled quickly into a passing rhythm, with playmaker Romaine Sawyers at the heart of their attacking play.
The international saw one effort charged down, before debutant Evans bent a speculative long-range attempt into the arms of Tykes keeper Nick Townsend.
On 19 minutes, Lalkovic teed up Evans who, 20 yards out, fired a crisp low drive inches wide of Townsend’s near post.
The visitors were dominating possession and enjoying the better of proceedings.
Townsend raced off his line to gather at Sawyers’ feet following a neat one-two with Evans, and an off-balance Bradshaw shot wide from a very tight angle.
HALF-TIME: BARNSLEY 0-0 WALSALL
The hosts started the second-half brightly.
Forde's far-post cross was headed back across goal by Lalkovic into the path of Evans. The Manchester City loanee touched the ball away from a defender, turned and picked out the far bottom corner with an accurate low drive.
With 18 minutes remaining, the Saddlers made it 2-0.
Slovakian attacker Lalkovic came back to haunt his former employers, coolly slotting past Townsend when one-on-one after latching onto Sawyers’ penetrative pass.
The visitors could have extended their lead.
Evans’ drive was fumbled by Townsend, who then gathered at the second attempt.

Was he playing up front for them? Looking at that teamsheet and the goal he scored it looks like he was haha.

I actually think he has a decent chance of making the first team as a good squad player, either he or Kean Bryan could definitely be our rotation holding midfielder in future a similar role to Fernando (in terms of squad status). Would love to see George become City's Busquets, he is City through and through and would give his all in every single game.

Wrote a piece on his development at City and his loan spell at Walsall if anyone fancies a read...

Quickly becoming a fans favourite at Walsall, they want to keep him beyond his short loan period due to his very impressive box to box performances. He was instrumental in helping the team remain top of their league with an assist for their 3rd having come back from being 2 nil down.
Well done to George,in terms of development, especially physically,i believe hes a bit of a late bloomer as he is becoming quite the presence, couple that with his vision, skill and composure and there is still decent hope he could forge himself a top level career.Like us all,id love it to be here but i fear he just wouldnt get the minutes he deserves.
Regardless.....this has proved, even at this early stage,a brilliant move for our rapidly evolving midfield general.

Just had a quick look in the Walsall forum and they absolutely love him....'he could make the difference for automatic promotion' .....'a beast at this level'......'a superb player'.

He played almost the full game in the top of the table clash, which Walsall won 3-2, so they are now top.

Keep up the good work George. Football is a funny game and you just never know what Pellers and the others may be thinking. My personal view is that he is developing to the point where he could be a squad player in the future. As we have seen with Kelechi it's a matter of taking your opportunities.
