Perhaps 95% of America doesn’t experience the “gun culture” crime that the media hypes, because it’s ALL big city urban, where crime is an issue.

Yes, America is awash in guns. However, the percentage of Americans who own guns isn’t nearly what you might think.

But, let’s be honest, what we are really talking about in almost ALL instances is...

Urban police, who have to police often dangerous streets, where the people committing the violent, gun-related crimes, are mostly black and often gang-related.

The police are HATED in those areas, often being targeted, so they live on a hair trigger even when the (as yet unknown) outcome of an interaction is begign.

This is America. This is normal. Yet NO-ONE seems to want to acknowledge escalation of violence on the streets that the police are supposed to control and protect.

So, you can say America is fucked to your hearts content, but it is stated from a media-fed position of ignorance. I’m on Marco Island right now and have not a care in the world about gun violence!

Hell, even in my suburb of Chicago I don’t worry about it! But, if I was in certain areas of Chicago proper, I’d be quite concerned.

Traffic stops are fraught with potentially rapid escalation. Simply comply, be non-threatening, and it de-escalates the tension.

The COP believes he is vulnerable outside his own car and approaching yours. The MINIMUM YOU SHOULD DO is give him ZERO REASON to see you as a threat!

And, yes, I have “had the talk” with my kids and they know what to do!

Be well, but be careful of your hyperbole. People who live in glass houses and all that.

I’m absolutely not opposed to more progressive gun laws.

NOW...enact them!!!

Go on...write them and enact them!

There are THOUSANDS of gun laws and ONE OF THEM is sacrosanct, because it is part of the FOUNDATIONAL RIGHTS OF BEING AN AMERICAN, FREE FROM SUBSERVIENCE TO A TYRANNICAL KING OF ENGLAND OR FUTURE AMERICAN TYRANT.

If you don’t like it, Americans simply say, “Stay home!”

Remind me what year he said that again and tell me how it’s relevant in today’s society ? I don’t need to stay at home, there’s loads of civilised countries out there.

You read it and I stand by my comments.
People have no idea what it's like to police. And I can only imagine it's a lot harder to police in America with the prevalence of guns. I would drum into my officers to always watch people's hands when you have stopped them-that's without the threat of a gun.
The actual suggestion that I'm some kind of right wing racist is offensive and is not something anyone who knows me would ever think.
I can also add that members of my team were subjected to racial abuse every other week-those people were always charged.

Funny how often this line is trotted out by people trying to defend the police after committing the indefensible.

You don't have a clue what it's like to be shot to death by someone who is supposed to protect you and your community but it's not exactly stopped you from running your fucking mouth, has it?

There was me thinking I knew and had close friends in that community, I’m not suggesting it’s not a difficult job but you do seem to have taken a very polarised view.
