Gerard Wiekens

Brilliant idea.

We owe that team and management.. no hang on, its just priceless what their gift turned into.
When I think back to that match and season it takes my breath away. I was staring at the pitch not watching with 5 minutes left thinking "I'm watching my club die here when all i've ever wanted was to see them be good", I'd been hoping that for years - well, since 1983 anyway.
Make no mistake if we had not done it that year - well, I find it very hard to envisage us making any sort of impact in the years that followed nevermind being in a position for us to be considered suitable for investment.

But we did and every one of that team for me are heros.

I look forward to that book very much

any suggestions for the title Dave?

I haven't got a title yet, so any suggestions from anybody are very welcome!

Depends what your angle is: the whole season or the day?

Into the light - the day(season?) the tide finally turned for Manchester City

Rock Bottom - Manchester City's injury time miracle

Journeymen-The men who put the smile back to Manchester City

Just for one day - the forgotten heroes of Manchester City

Actually I like that last one, even though they aren't technically forgotten, it makes the book potentially more of interest to neutrals/publishers. The strap line would need heroes in it but could be something like 'Manchester City's Playoff Heroes'

It's actually not hugely about the game - it will be about it, but it's going to be a series of interviews with everyone involved to get the behind the scenes look at the day and the squad's memories etc. And then there'll be something on each of them about what's happened to them since. At least, that's the plan anyway!

I'll have a clearer idea when I've written it, I'm still doing the interviews at the moment.

I like this from Shaun Goater's post match, pitchside interview: 'You start to think that maybe it's over...'

Also, look at this guy from 7:18

Looking forward to the book David!

Book should be called "sliding doors" in reference to the film and the "other" reality we could be living now.
Plus the sliding is referring to Dickovs celebration.

I too loved Gerard Wiekens.

He was a class act for us and rarely 'hoofed' the ball out of defence, rather playing it out calmly and passing to a team-mate. He complimented Andy Morrison's no-nonsense approach very well.

As has already been mentioned, he had van Nosebag in his pocket for the last Maine Road derby; Gerard and Lucien Mettomo was absolutely immense that day.

However, I don't remember him playing for us in midfield very often.

Good luck with the book!
