Germany v England | Nations League | Tues 7th June '22

The Athletic did a thing about the Southgate/Grealish relationship last year, the gist of it is here.

I'd be hugely disappointed and surprised if Southgate's letting the fact his mate struggled to manage a player 5 years ago influence his team selection now (although perhaps, in the light of that story, not as disappointed as Jack will have been to not be picked to take a penalty in the Euro final).

But I guess it speaks to his general approach. I think he sees Mount as a player who will always do as he's told, and worries that Grealish is less controllable, not realising that spark of creativity is what the team needs.

Useful post and info; cheers pal

Does anyone else sometimes feel like the entire point of Southgate's tenure has been to get Kane the record?

Bloke starts almost every game, even against opposition where Abraham or Vardy or Watkins or Ings would've done just fine, and we play as if he's the only guy we want scoring.

What would the point of that being?, You dont win team trophies for individual records

Apparently not offside because it was deliberately played by the german defender. But I agree that he appeared to trip himself up
Stupid dumb **** unaware of what his actual body is doing, its not a cheated dive honest!!

Late penalty?

I know you lot don't see it, but you are the Rags/Dippers of international football.
The tactics of those teams bleed through to the england team like osmosis, fans celebrate it week in week out when teams do it but its getting embarrasing now when it shows the world that the national team is adopting this way of playing that the 'popular' teams in the league play, totally embarrasing.

Typical premier league penalty wasnt it?, From the self trip to the ref checking the monitor so it looks var is doing a job and the useless twat gives it anyway
1st. let me say, I hate the national team set-up under Southgate , but, Kane was played onside and was then tripped.
To me, more to the point, it should have been a red card and a penalty.
