I had no idea that the Palestinian population within Germany was so large and also the extent to which they have been cast in the role of an ‘out-group’. Also liked the point about German nationalism being expressed vicariously through support for Israel.

Adenauer and his fellow unreconstructed Nazis, use German Holocaust guilt, to justify absolute support for Israel, but this support was nothing more than a cynical manoeuvre by Adenauer to legitimise the post war German state. The corollary is that Germany's unequivocal support for Israel has inevitably cast Arab nationalism as the "enemy", and this explains German indifference to the suffering of the Palestinians.

The Russians have always sought to subvert Western democracy. Or in the case of the UK, alleged democracy.

The difference is that the tools they now use are nativists, right-wing nationalists and neo-Nazis. Whereas in the USSR days, it used to be the far-left Labour, Communist trade union officials, and other people on the left end of the spectrum. The objective remains the same, to change Western nations in their interests. E.g. detaching the UK from the EU, creating suspicion about our institutions, and instigating radical change in their interest. The internet and the weird conspiracy theories it generates assist them in this.
