Tried to post this on the other thread about technical issues (but it is now locked).

I was online at about 11am, and was attacked by a Trojan Horse from this site...didn't want to start another thread but couldn't see it mentioned anywhere.

Anyways, keep up the good work guys!

I appreciate how frustrating it is for people when the forum is running slow, or they are getting SQL errors all the time. We are trying hard to resolve the issue, but it's not as straightforward as people think.

It's not just a case of throwing more money at the hosting company, as the server is fine, from a hardware point of view at least. Switching forum software is problematic too, as it may result in us losing the existing database which would be a nightmare, as we'd effectively be setting up from scratch.

It's a bit annoying that every day new threads are started with people complaining, and the implication that we're doing nothing about the problem, as Damoles and myself are spending hours every day trying to resolve it. You have to bear in mind that we have families and jobs outside of Bluemoon too.

We will fix the problem eventually, we just ask for a little patience. The changes that have happened to the club mean we're getting an unprecedented amount of traffic on the site, and we need to adapt the forum accordingly but it's not a two minute job, like some suggest.

I certainly didnt suggest it is a two minute job. Surely there are people with the relevant skills within the our fanbase that could help.

How about subscriptions, if people paid a tenner per year, that could well help raise funds and meet the costs required to upgrade the technical side of the site.

Ric has stated a number of times he doesn't want to do that.

I can't see why not, but its his decision.

Aside from that, the work everyone who puts their free time into this site, is certainly appreciated by me and the vast majority of users.

Posters are offering to help financially if it means they have a relaible service and mods are telling them to mind thier own business and find a new forum if they don't like it.

Either sort it out so we don't have to complain or let us know why its shit.

2. We've told you what the problems are/have been.

3. Adverts pay towards the running cost, not in total for it.

I get annoyed when people who don't know anything, come on putting demands in the subject title like the OP did, there's no problem at all with debating it, or even asking nicely whats wrong, but Ric has a young family to look after, and all the rest of us surprisingly have lives and jobs, away from Bluemoon, to get on with (I'm currently at mine, and moderating on here as well).

I happen to know that going from what we have here now, to the "next level" is a very large jump in cost, and as I said above Ric has stated a number of times he doesn't want to charge, he didn't want to have adverts either, but the last upgrade he made required it, and adverts are minimal if you log in.

In fact if people logged in rather than viewed as guests it might actually help with the issues.

Dont talk crap. The amount of users has been steady for a while. The revenue from advertising is conjecture. The advertising is not minimal, try logging in as a guest. If you take my post as being "shirty" then u r a little precious and oversensative.

Maybe the people running the site actually have better things to do than come on here and pander to your every whim..

I eagerly await your new city forum which will have capacity for 100 million concurrent users, will be advertisement free, without subscriptions, with 0% downtime over a year.

You dont know and I dont know, therefore its conjecture. Hope thats explained it for you mate. Simple really.

The site is also getting flagged as unsafe at the moment by Microsoft. Is this something we should be worried about.

That was explained earlier today, its an error, there is no threat from Bluemoon, from what I gathered its an issue with Internet Explorer, not Bluemoon.

Would it be worth having a little bit at the top of the tech section just explaining whats going on when the site is slow? Perhaps with updates as the the issues are ironed out? I think i've read Damocles try and explain whats up but as with IT, there was a lot or jargon, some i understood some i didn't.

I think we've got to excuse peoples ignorance in this instance, i've no idea why one forum can have 1,000,000 clicks a day and run fine whilst another might have 1,000 and crash after 100.

I think everyone appreciates that BM is run by people in thier sparetime, no one is here to pander to us, as users, requests... A lot of us don't know why it runs slow and i think thats why a lot of people complain regularly; people can't understand what they haven't been told.

If its a case of "shut up, we're fixing it behind the scenes, it'll be done when its done." Ok fine, i think if people were given a chance to understand why it runs slow and why its such a big job, thered be much more understanding and tolerance when the sites maxing out the servers and continually crashing. Hopefully thered be a lot less threads complaining about it too ;)
