Getting a GP appointment

Lad I work with, 61 has been Ill for several months. GP refuses to see him basically and fobbed him off saying his persistent cough was a chest infection probably and prescribed antibiotics. Got no better, finally saw him and again, just prescribed antibiotics telling him not to worry. Weeks later, couldn’t eat or keep anything down, blood in stool they book him a colonoscopy. That was last week. They found a polyp and growth which resulted in a CT scan. Today he got told cancer is everywhere and all they can do now is palliative care.

Could and would it have been a different outcome had he been seen immediately and proper investigations happened? No idea, I’m no doctor but personally I think his care has been an utter fucking scandal.
So sad to read this, my brother went through something similar, not exactly the same but along similar lines, ie, not seen by the GP when he was clearly struggling with a bad chest cough, basically fobbed off. This all culminated in, just over 12mths ago, him being told he was riddled with cancer and palliative care was all that could be offered, he passed away in November last year, still can't get my head round it all, we were pretty close and I really miss the regular visits and phone calls we had, his widow is still struggling to come to terms with the loss, he was only 65.
Ok so maybe the outcome was inevitable, who knows, but I can't help but think if he'd been seen sooner by the right people he may well still be with us, thank fuck he's at peace now and not suffering the horrendous pain I saw him go through, I got to spend plenty of quality time with him and to help fulfil his wish to stay at home until the end.

Fuck off cancer!

OK slightly off thread in that I wasn't seeking a GP appointment but.... I have blurred vision in my left eye. 24/7. Long story short I asked the gp to refer me back to the specialist as I had read that pressure on the nerves in the C2 vertabrae caused this.
I stated the specialists had concentrated on the problems around the C5 6 and 7 vertabrae and just maybe they had missed this.
Today I got a copy of the letter the consultant has sent the GP. It said that as he had provided no information what so ever about the referral they were refusing it.
4 months wasted. I was simply fobbed off by the gp.
The phrase Fucking Wanker springs to mind

As you say who knows, but probably.

I can only go on my wifes treatment from our surgery, which for nearly 18 months has been a complete disgrace, but she spoke to a doctor last week, who actually seemed to give a shit, and who has surprisingly phoned her back twice since, saying he wasn't happy with various tests results that didn't seem to have been looked at properly.

He's subsequently asked for further tests, prescribed different medications than she was already on, based on questions he asked, and there has already been improvement. We await further test results, and a further set of tests, but at least we now feel that someone is actually listening.

I’d go and have an eye test, they can pick up on stuff like that.

Then A&E it if you can’t get seen again.

My eyes are fine, the Manc. Eye Hospital have done every test, there is nothing the can do and to get fair, maybe nobody cab but the gp could at least have written down what I asked so the specialist had a clue. He has clearly sent no info at all. Just fobbed me off.

What could 111 do? Probably just say A&E, I guess.

Could you get another Doctor to refer you?

I’m a, don’t go to the doctors unless absolutely necessary, kind of person. It must be at least 10, probably nearer to 15 years since I last went until recently.
Mate, for every one of you there are more who will go to A&E and the GP for anything. Tummy pain, split acrylic nail, shampoo in the eye, dizzy spell after smoking marijuana, feeling a bit down....

The letter had an email address of the consultants secretary, I will write with my questions to her asking for it to be passed on. They have an MRI scan so they don't need to do anything other than look at that.
I would fully accept if they say there is nowt they can do but at least let's ask them. I am also asking for an explanation from the Practice Manager at the GPs surgery.
One point I tried to make, when I was in Australia a Chiropractor worked on my C2 and it improved. I had of course to come home before he finished with me so it is fixable....... just not in the uk :-( cos the gp isn't arsed.

Hope you make some headway soon mate.

Many a bloke been found hanging from the landing light fitting who didn't go to the doctors after his mates testified he had been "feeling a bit Down" recently"

I would doubt someone would hang themselves after feeling a bit down. I'd suggest they would have a lot more going on.

I decided to go private this week with work. The private plan includes existing conditions. The health care plan was £870. If done privately it’s over £2000. After 4 months of frustration with my practice/GP’s, waiting 4 months since November for 2 Physiotherapy appointments, the 2nd appointment is in April, not being given an MRI scan on my knee, I’ve given up.

I called my GP practice in the second week of Feb and the earliest appointment I could get was 26th March. 6 weeks!
