well the story we told Trafford was enough to make him come back here and fight it out vs Ederson who was leaving next summer anyway. Donnarumma is a whole different animal, he aint coming as a treble winner to be understudy to Trafford.
there will be an uncomfortable conversation between Pep and Trafford soon which will end like he will have second thoughts why he not went to Newcastle imo to replace Pope long term.

100% this

it sounded like Trafford was told you be number 1 and play

He isn’t ready. Undoubtedly a top keeper but he isn’t ready for the top gig just yet

I read posters saying we keep standing still in the market. To not sign Donnarumma would be doing just that. (IMO)
On what basis do you say' he's not ready yet'

But why ?

The City Squad is in a right mess and so unbalanced with centre-backs and midfield players

1 striker
1 fullback
1 Rodri

where is the cover for them 3 players

not sure, I think he was told look at the big picture, you come in, replace Ortega which means you will play every time Ederson is out and also get all Carabao, FA cup games and some easier CL games too. and Ederson has 12 months left so if you step up and be a good number two number one is all yours from next summer.

I am sure early in the window we had no idea of Donnarumma becoming an option and Ederson will push his transfer so much so whatever we planned had to change in the middle of the window.

with Ederson saying goodbye and his transfer saga probably Pep thought he is not in the right mindset so Trafford started first 3 games and didnt do too badly apart from Spurs game.

But playing ahead of Ederson this season in the first 3 games ? sort of says your number 1
Not when Edersons mind was elsewhere. Once Ederson said he wanted to leave he was no longer first choice.
Trafford will still get a fair number of games with the domestic cup games & probably a number of league matches once the games are coming thick & fast.

Obviously we need him - but difficult to get over excited about a keeper - one mistake is all it takes. Christ look at united's rogues gallery of keepers - all hailed as the best in the World when they joined - then hounded out and vilified.
It's an extremely precarious position.

One mistake ??

Maybe Haaland and the others could have scored a couple ?

The fact he’s come up from the championship and looks prone to a gaff. That of course erases with time. Put it this way, should Arsenal or Liverpool - our title rivals, have signed Trafford and passed on the chance of Donnarumma, this forum would be pissing it’s pants at them.

Apart from one dodgy pass, Trafford has shown what we need in a GK that we haven't had for a bit. Good shot-stopper, some class saves yesterday and a good performance against Wolves. He'll need some time to settle in. You say its a gamble, Donnarumma is an Italian keeper, he'll be playing until he's at least 36, and by the time he's finished at City, so will Trafford, a top keeper who isn't going to want to sit on the bench for years, when he could get into the first team of any other PL club bar maybe 1 or 2. We can't waste another talent by signing someone who is renowned for being bad with his feet. All seems silly to me, 2 starters in one window.
The narrative seems to be that we don’t need to sign one of the best keepers in the world because we have this young lad and yet there is zero evidence that Trafford can step up to the required level. At the moment, Trafford is the goalkeeper version of Rico Lewis breaking through. It’s potential and that’s all, there’s no guarantees he becomes a top keeper. It’s not that long ago, people had Rico down as our RB for the next decade, now those same people don’t want him at the club at all. The gamble here, would be not signing Donnarumma and it turns out Trafford isn’t actually the 2nd coming of Gordon Banks. What do we do then?

If what you and some others say is true, Donnarumma will be an expensive mistake and Trafford will come through and save the day. If what you say is wrong, then Donnarumma will turn out to be a great number 1 and nobody will give a toss about Trafford, because the club is more important than any one player. Either way, you have nothing to worry about with this signing.

Yep and probably be captain sooner or later too

Why else does he sign for City ? Like i said Newcastle 100% was giving him the keepers shirt and start him in every game
As I said - is this your opinion or fact. If fact, could you post the source saying he was going to be Newcastle No 1

Or have I misunderstood you??
