Big gamble to take. We all know the Premier League will let the Rags spend what they like next season too even if its finishing 15th again.

Donnarumma is world class, Genuinely be gutted if he went to them cunts.
Yah I agree but I dont think we need him. As good as he is (and he is the best shot stopper in the world) we would have to change our whole style of play - now if Pep is going to do this then fine ....but it would be very unlike Pep to do such a thing. Ederson has been integral to the way the whole team plays as he si so good with his feet. Donarumma for want of a better word is shit. If we try to play out from the back with him teams will just press and press usand we will concede due to a lot of mistakes .....

It will be interesting to see what happens here - this sighing as good a keeper as he is makes no sense unless Pep is about to change the way the team plays

Seems plausible to me that Ederson was told he’d still be sold if a suitable replacement could be found in what’s left of the window. Donnaruma’s situation at PSG has now opened that door, and things are moving quite quickly now. Trafford was always more of an Ortega replacement imo, opening up another foreign spot in the squad. Regardless of Ederson/Donnaruma, he was never going to be first choice this season.

How about mentality? City need to stand in the tunnel at the Emirates and Anfield and just exude confidence

PSG are the best possession based side in the world. If he can play for them and win the CL, he can play for City.

This should be obvious.
There manager has literally said he wants a different "style of keeper" while acknowledging Donarumma is the best keeper in the world.....

This is what Pep did with Joe Hart all those years ago. Everyone knew Hart was a decent shot stopper but probably couldnt adapt to playing out with his feet...

Pep will have to change his style of build up with Donarumma cause if he doesnt he will just get pressed and give goals away

Stop talking sense, lad!

I dont think you can question Edersons mentality really...he is a winner and brave as they come..he aint the best shot stopper (everyone knows that) but he has a good mentality about him and isnt afraid of those situations.

Courtois is up there with the most useless goalkeeper with the ball at his feet. It’s a tactic we used well in the home game in 22/23 to completely nullify their build up.

Yet he’s one of the best in the world and would take him in a heartbeat if he became available.

I’d say Donnarumma falls into that same bracket.

Ederson is great for playing risky passes and being relaxed on the ball - that attitude is brilliant and brings a collective calm to the defence - but other than a long ball over the top, we don’t get to see his ball playing ability anymore because teams don’t see the point in pressing us.

It would be a welcome change to have teams come onto us a bit more rather than sit back.

But I was/am excited to see Trafford develop too because he’s OK with the ball at his feet but also a brilliant goalkeeper in his own right. Having Eddie here for another year didn’t exactly hinder his development but bringing Donnarumma in for 5+ years might.

But I see the standpoint of if he becomes available (which he is based on his statement tonight) then it would be stupid not to pounce.

I always liked how Barca used Bravo/Ter Stegen in terms of cup and league goalkeepers. There’s plenty of games to share. But doesn’t seem the norm.

Liverpool have got a similar issue with Alisson and their new keeper.

Dont know how realistic this is but TH on X is saying that the club could be playing a bit of a game here and that bidding for Donarumma (or making it known that we are supposedly after him is forcing utd to go for him now...utd want a keeper and they also want Baleba (we also want Baleba but not till next year) - utd cannt afford both Baleba and Donarumma now so by forcing them to get Donarumma now paves the way for us next year to get Baleba
Look at the way the rags throw money around every transfer window. Their historical spending tells us they could afford to get one of Donnarumma/Baleba this summer and the other next.

So the game of 4D chess alluded to by Mr Hairdoo seems somewhat of a stretch.

When it comes to goalkeepers beimg good with their feet, Ederson is in a world of his own, he's an absolute freak.

Truth be told, He's irreplaceable when it comes to his footwork, no matter what keeper we sign after Ederson it's always going to be a downgrade when it comes to a ball playing goalkeeper.

We'd have the same issue with James Trafford if he was to take over as No.1 after Ederson in my opinion, we'll need to sign another goalkeeper anyway once Ederson does leave so we may as well sign the best shot stopper in the world of he's available. I understand your points though.

I think it is a bit more nuanced than this.

Enrique is taking the heat off Donnarumma, he's run his deal down but is a legend of the club, unlike Mbappe.

I always thought Enrique wanted to get a goalkeeper in that was better on the ball. That he accepted Donnarumma because of his ability on the line, but saw it as the clear position to strenghten this summer. Im quite baffled Pep actually wants him

Maybe but I think they would have stuck with him if not for the wage issue, they dont win the CL without him last season.
