It's not scientific but I've just done a quick poll; I'm sat with eight footy journos/subs – none are Blues – four reds, one Arsenal, two Liverpool and one Hibs fan. All are over 40 and been watching the game for a living for most of their lives

Most skilful rags player ever; five for Best three for Ronaldo.
Most skilful City player ever; seven Kinkladze and one cannot decide between Ali B and Kinky.

All think Colin Bell was City's best overall performer but that wasn't the question.

I've no doubt mate that if you asked every City fan over 30 the City question you wouldn't get a much different result. I've no doubt I'm very much in the minority but it's all about opinions.

Despite what you say about watching city I just can't believe you've ever seen Kinky when he was playing for us. I just can't but I may be wrong. I've never met anyone who sat there week in and week out saying anything but "what a player" or words to that effect. He had faults like all players have, but my god he made up for them better than any player I've ever seen in Blue.

You're not saying anything my mates say and they sat/stood next to me at the time. Of course when he did things like the Southampton goal it was right up there with Maradona but he only did things like that very rarely for me, too rarely. There is no doubt he had ability but he never, for me, effected the amount of games he should have. That's the difference between him and other players, most with less ability, who made bigger differences more often.

For you, my friend, I will expand. He isn't in the best 5 players I've seen at City and would struggle to make my top 10.

I am more used to the likes of Brannan, Horlock and Creaney!

You can't mention Horlock in the same breath as Creaney and Brannan. He's a City hero!

I've never gone along with this stuff about Gio not delivering - my lasting memory of his time at City is him beating players for fun, looking up and having fuck all on to pass to so he'd spend ages shielding ball and beating players again in the hope that his teamates would catch up. Mostly they didn't though. He won us way more points then he lost.

Ali B is my all time fav, with goater 2nd and kinky very close in 3rd.

how young people can say he is not in their top 10 is confusing.

on his day he was untouchable, but he had his down side aswell, but he played in a team that was utter gash.

Benarbia had Berkovic and Goater to play alongside, which made him stand out more, as they understood the way he played.

kinky had no one, well that i can remember anyway.

Even the true greats only score one of those a lifetime, Gio managed a few more not that far off that one.

I'd completely disagree, there were countless games where he did things that took my breath away. All these pieces of magic didn't always lead to goals but that wasn't his fault the majority of the time.

Have a look at that video that was posted, some of the finishing from his team-mates was embarrassing.

Skill is not the be all and end all. If it was purely down to skill then the keepy up champions would be great footballers

Please stop it. We get your point but don't start making out Gio was something he wasn't. You've already dismissed him as some kind of dead ball specialist who rarely scored from open play and now you're making out he was just a show pony.

He wasn't your favourite. That's fine, but he was the sole reason I didn't crack up during 1995-1998 so let's not sully the memory eh?
