Girl savaged to death by dogs in Manchester

Judge each pet individually. You know if your pet is capable or not, you know it's temperament. Fact is is that if she was on the house alone those dogs may have judged her a threat. Bull mastifs have a strong guarding nature and the owners should have known better than to allow this situation to happen.

A pack of dogs of these breeds is always going to be potentially dangerous. Probably be fine around a confident person, but if this poor girl strarted to show fear and then panic that would trigger escalating aggression in the dogs.

Stupid to have a group of dogs of these breeds in the first place, even more stupid not to train them properly and worse than stupid to leave them unsupervised with a child.

Sorry but that much stupidity adds up to criminality and I hope the owner of these dogs goes to prison for a long time.

Look,seems obvious but dogs are ANIMALS.They are not meant to sleep on slumberland beds with continental quilts.Lie on axminster rugs in front of log effect gas fires.They are pack animals with an instinct to hunt.
There should only be working dogs,ie ,guide dogs,police dogs.sheep dogs and sniffer dogs and such like.
If my kids want to see ANIMALS I take them to the zoo.

I disagree about the 'only working dogs' thing to.
They can be great companions and give a lot of love to their family.

Indeed many children are introduced to nature and wildlife via the family pet.
I loved my dog as a kid and they taught me to be share, feeling of responsibility etc.

seriously, so my uncle cant leave his trained guide dog with a kid. What about a chihuaha. you said you had dogs i think, what type of dogs do you have where you cant leave them with kids ???

dangerous dogs should not be left with kids. my dog is great with kids, guess what its not a dangerous dog.

What don't you understand about the simple fact that it's an unnecessarily stupid risk to take to leave a child alone with a dog, any dog?

What if the child, not knowing any better, gets too playful with the dog and the dog naturally responds but with enough force to seriously injure the child? It might be unlikely but for most people, it's too much of a risk.

You have a nurse telling you how often it happens, you have statistics telling you it happens, why take the chance? If it happens to your child, it will be them that will have to live with the consequences, not you.

And yes, they should reintroduce licensing, and completely ban a lot of the breeds that are already around.

read my posts, i agree it is a risk to leave a child with a dog !!! i have said that throughout the whole thread. I just state that it is the owner or the parents fault.

so as i said i cant leave my little brother say with a chihuhua ????. You need to look at the difference between dogs, i would not leave a child alone with a rotweiler or a pitbull, but with a family trained small dog, with the company of a parent or adult or someone who knows how to look after the dog then yes that is fine. Not what people seem to be doing and leaving there kids alone with dog .... which is fuckin stupid

2 bull mastiffs ? fucking hell i'm not small and one of those fuckers is enough for any person to handle if they are nasty fuckers.

A fucking horrible afternoon in work today..my colleagues who were on the radio were virtually in tears.
We deal with 95 percent of shit in my job normally...stuff like this still seems unreal after 14yrs working in the control room.

I don`t think the dogs involved in this case could be carried around in Paris Hilton`s handbag.
And as regards to a "family pet" whats wrong with rabbits,gerbils and hamsters etc to learn their feeling of responsibility

same here, I don't know what breed it is, but there's some bulldog type that sometimes is free out on the fallowfield loop when I go running down there.
Have to say I do not like going past it, I'd have a job fighting it off, jaw looks huge and owner usually a long way off and lets it wander around as it pleases.
