Girl savaged to death by dogs in Manchester

There is a scene in Django Unchained which i fucking hated, if you've seen it you'll know what scene I mean, I just thought to myself imagine dying like that, it would be slow and terrifying and ridiculously painful. And that was just a film.

Wasn't there a scene in The Boys From Brazil that was similar .
The lad had trained his dogs , Dobermans I think , to attack on the command of "action" and to cease on the command of "cut".
Gregory Peck didn't last long .

ive said it on here before that ive got an English bull terrier, im 34 family man so its not a look at my hard dog thing just loved them and always wanted one after watching the incredible journey as a kid, ive also got a chocolate lab, we had them both at the dog park from a young age so they would get used to other dogs but as she got bigger (the bull terrier) she just started going for other dogs all the time.
We read up about them before we got her and all reports had them down as great with children and people and we have found this to be true she really loves people and wont leave them alone be it me or a stranger coming into the house but other animals is a different matter, she wont just growl or bark she just attacks and would kill it if she got it,
in the house if i say come here, drop that, sit, whatever she does it instantly but once she has seen another animal there is nothing i can say to stop her, shes gone,
its has been a nightmare at times as i have to walk both dogs separately and always keep her on the lead and i had my calf ripped open stopping her fighting with a rottie a very very scary sight and it knocked me sick thinking of the frenzy those 2 dogs were in and thinking about that poor girl.
i wouldn't get another one but i love her to bits and dont take offence when people say people only get this or that dog to look hard as i agree it is often the case,

had to rush my bully in to vets yesterday, she was crying and could hardly walk, shes swallowed some string and its got her insides a mess, shes had a big op to remove it and some of her intestines and the vet has said shes 50-50 in next 24 hrs.
Anyone had this situation and what is quality of life like if she comes through ?

Nice to see mum has turned up for the inquest in appropriate attire.

Would some people say that humans and dogs can be compared in that most are well-trained, obedient, careful creatures and that some are mindless, thuggish and a threat?

I don't think this is a good comparison. Dogs are completely different animals with different social needs and limited intelligence.

Well trained dogs have owners that understand them as dogs, respect them as dogs and do not try to treat them as people.

To use your words, "mindless and thuggish" dogs have either been purposefully mistreated or not treated as "dogs" by well meaning owners.

I just cannot see the point in owning any kind of dog that can cause the kind of damage things like bull mastiffs and staffies can unless you're in to hunting or something. Almost always seems to be the same type of people that own these dogs as well.

If you want a pet then get a cocker spaniel or a hamster.

Re-read my post above Wayne...

Staffies are such loving animals, it's the human that infiltrates this breed and makes them disgusting.

I went to an house before I bought Otis (my staffie) in Rochdale.
This Pakistani guy hated dogs, he even said it, yet he owned a 2bed council house where nobody lived in it except rows of cages all full of staffies and other breeds.

His sole intention was to make profit.

Before I left I asked him: would you cross breed that Staffie woman you have with an American Pit for me? you'd sell those pups easy...

His reply? Yes no problem my friend,we can do business.

I'm not doubting you or your dog but I cannot see why anyone would want such an animal. If you want a dog there are far less dangerous breeds to own.

Do you realise that a lot of people with 'normal' breeds of dogs shit themselves when some staffie or mastiff comes bounding up to their dog or their kids? Its usually followed by the old 'its harmless mate' or 'its only playing'. I dont care just keep the fucking thing away.

To me it will always be how the dog's are brought up and not what type of dog they are.

Thats great pal, I can show you a youtube vid of a a fully grown lion licking a blokes face but I wouldn't want one in my garden.

What exactly is a normal breed? Give me one breed that is incapable of doing fatal damage to a kid, and/or other dog. Every dog can be dangerous so if you only judge the dog by its breed you will get in a lot of unexpected trouble.

As I started to type this I started some vigor and venom, but rewrote it.

I have read that its the dog, no its the owners, its the training, everyone seems to be pointing fingers. I understand that people love dogs, and I'm not out to ban or cull any of them, that said, something has to change.

It appears very similar to the gun debate in America. Some people want to keep them and will defend them some people want rid. Do we all get big dogs and treat them mean so my dog will kill your dog if it goes near my children?

Someone somewhere is going to be killed by another dog, it could today, it could be tomorrow, but we'll all roll over and have our tummies tickled and run for the same old arguments(see above). My take is that its totally unacceptable that dogs be allowed to carry on doing this, remove the dogs ability to do this until a solution is found. I don't know if anyone has ever asked this question or if its even been though about.

Having read the thread, I understand some abuse may be heading my way, fair enough, I'm a big lad, I can take it. I simply ask that you tell me other ways to fix this problem.
