Given To Retire? (MERGED)

Re: Given

Not looking good for Shay.
His shoulder seems to have been a weakness for some time.
Sorry Shay but the silver lining for City could be no one will want to take the risk on him (and his salary) and he stays with City and mentors (and covers for) Hart, for another couple of years.
That said, hope the lad gets good news this week.

Re: Given

It will depend on how he comes back from this injury this time round. I honestly think he rushed back last time. Originally they thought he wouldnt of been fit to play until September but yet he was back playing during pre season. Now for Shay take the operation asap. And from now till the start of the new season slowly build it up. If he injurys the shoulder again after this injury then i would consider even retiring from football has played to a high standard played at the World Cup as well not a bad football carrer for him but for a keeper it will be cut short in goalkeeping terms.

Given to retire...??

Shay Given's Career in the Balance Due To Recurrence of Shoulder Injury
By True Blue (Manchester City Featured Columnist) on February 22, 2011 8

Manchester City PhotosThere are some unconfirmed reports that Shay Given will be forced to retire from football after a recurrence of a shoulder injury that dates back several years.

Given is due to see a specialist with the expectation of a third operation being required to permanently cure the persistent dislocations that the Irish shot-stopper has be plagued by.

There is a feeling, however, that the operation to cure the dislocation problem may well also limit the mobility in the joint, and mean that Given may have no option but to retire.

The innocuous knock that led to the most recent shoulder problem is also a concern as the joint was apparently under no major stress at the time of it dislocating.

Re: Given to retire...??

Hope he recovers and we let him go to a decent club where he can win something....nice guy and now a part of Citys history.

Get Well soon Shay.

Re: Given to retire...??

Sweet Jesus, hopefully not. I'm Irish, we only have three decent players.. We couldn't afford to lose Shay. The only chance we have of possibly qualifying depends on Shay. We need Shay supporting Joe, no one better to learn from imo!

Re: Given to retire...??

He was brought back too early after injuriing it last time - and paid the price by damaging it against Arsenal.
Hope it isn't too bad this time
