Given To Retire? (MERGED)

And now the press are catching up with me ;-)

@Ian_Ladyman_DM
Ian Ladyman
Shay Given to see specialist tomorrow. Initial scans already done and suggest surgery needed, though. City career effectively over.

I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery, not just for his footballing career but for his health, I believe many of the plauyers do read the forum, if Shay does then I want to9 send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery, all the best lad.

Strange. I heard a couple of weeks ago from someone who knows Shay and his wife pretty well through their charity fundraising dos that he has been unofficially (and illegally) approached by the rags about going there in the summer to replace Van Der Sar, but they can't pay the £7m we want, or match his salary.
Conspiracy theory, knocking the price down, anyone?.....

Sweet Jesus, hopefully not. I'm Irish, we only have three decent players.. We couldn't afford to lose Shay. The only chance we have of possibly qualifying depends on Shay. We need Shay supporting Joe, no one better to learn from imo!

I know, Ireland will be absolutely fucked without him. We don't have a keeper even close to his ability. We'd desperately miss, not only his ability as a player but the player himself, is a massive leader and character in the team. Our best player, our only reliable and consistant player and we'll be fucked without him, qualification really lied with him.
Really hope he's not finished. They used to call him Lazarus back at Newcastle, I hope the name is relevant again.
He absolutely wont sit on his ass though, if he's told he can go back he'll work his socks off, his character wouldn't let him just sit their and take in the money.

Because he won't let anyone else play even in friendlies

Seconded.

Ya, because that's his decision.
You look at our replacements for him, nobody comes close, sadly, I wish they did because we're going to be in a world of trouble without him.

He's known to say he wants to play every game even the stupid friendly games when your supposed to try someone new isn't that the reason kiley quit then came back only to be subbed at half time in a friendly for given

And keane also had a pop at him about this

He WANTS to play every game. I was under the impression that's what most players wanted, yes there are some players who couldn't be fucked going to internationals and such, but at the end of the day, it's up to the manager to play who he wants to play.
The player doesn't make that decision, and Trap will continue to build the team around a very thin backbone that we have and that is with Given cemented in goals.
The keepers position is up for anyone to throw their hat at, again, the manager makes the call who starts.

And Roy Keane had a go at him, well compared to what he's said about other Irish players, this is borderline compliment.
And it's Roy Keane, besides RAGS, and you apparently, who gives a shit?

Fuck Roy Keane and anything that **** has to say about anybody or anything.
Shay would never turn his back on his country at a World Cup, whatever the perceived 'provocation'.
Shay Given is proud to play for his country, anytime, anyplace anywhere.
The King of Donegal is worth a million of that fucking Cork gyppo. A joke, I would happily piss on his grave.
I agree that neither Westwood nor Doyle are fit to polish his boots. Without Shay, Ireland are fucked.
But as I said earlier, while he is undoubtedly injured, I very much doubt he is finished and this has more to do with his exit strategy from City.
