He was brought back too early after injuriing it last time - and paid the price by damaging it against Arsenal.
Hope it isn't too bad this time

So injuring his other shoulder is a result of coming back too early is it?

Sweet Jesus, hopefully not. I'm Irish, we only have three decent players.. We couldn't afford to lose Shay. The only chance we have of possibly qualifying depends on Shay. We need Shay supporting Joe, no one better to learn from imo!

Perhaps he could stay on as a coach? Unlikely, but would be very handy, and it would allow Hart to get more direct coaching rather than simply having to observe and speak to Given for inspiration.

We'd need to bring in a new player for competition, though.

Shay Given's Career in the Balance Due To Recurrence of Shoulder Injury
By True Blue (Manchester City Featured Columnist) on February 22, 2011 8

Manchester City PhotosThere are some unconfirmed reports that Shay Given will be forced to retire from football after a recurrence of a shoulder injury that dates back several years.

Given is due to see a specialist with the expectation of a third operation being required to permanently cure the persistent dislocations that the Irish shot-stopper has be plagued by.

There is a feeling, however, that the operation to cure the dislocation problem may well also limit the mobility in the joint, and mean that Given may have no option but to retire.

The innocuous knock that led to the most recent shoulder problem is also a concern as the joint was apparently under no major stress at the time of it dislocating.
Where's this from ?

Re: Given to retire...??

£90 grand a week and plenty left on his contract, he's not about to do City any favours, and why should he.

He can put his feet up, do his rehab, know he's not going to dislodge Hart, and walk away £8m richer...

And that's before he may decide to quit and cash in a massive insurance policy.

Owen Hargreaveas, anyone?
