Been thinking about this since last night and I'm staggered that the MEN even published this story. The rags media team will be furious with them and you normally can't afford to upset one of your local clubs, particularly one as high-profile as the rags. So I reckon one of three things has happened:

1) The MEN are currently out of favour at the swamp anyway so don't give a fuck.

2) That the rag PR team have encouraged the MEN to run it to embarrass the rag fans into turning out for this one. You'd only need to run it in the local paper.

3) That some of the papers have been told that Baconface is retiring (although that will be strictly embargoed). They will certainly not get the same deference from the media after he goes and there's probably going to be a shit-storm heading their way then. I've noticed that there have been a few stories recently in some outlets which have been quite disrespectful so this could be part of that.

Also I couldn't believe how quiet the media were after their title win, which makes me suspicious that their PR team are keeping their powder dry for something even bigger.

What better time to announce his retirement than less than 24 hours after we (hopefully) lift the FA Cup and they get presented with the PL trophy? This should guarantee a great turn out for the rags parade.

I do think he'll be off soon as well. He's got less chance of getting another CL than Wigan have of winning the Europa and it'd be the last act of a Despot to try and steal our cup winning thunder (fingers crossed) with news of his retirement which may act as a catalyst to increase the parade as a last chance to see baconface moment.

Fuck it I'm going to their parade to celebrate with them if Fergie is off.

If they could keep quiet who is gonna get the scum job, ready for a parade for old bacon, that is something out of 1984, how could there be no leaks? (especially when the constant speculation over Mancini's job is considered).

I can't see them retiring that old **** without a replacement in the pipeline. Who is the replacement that makes the scenario work? The answer might even answer a few of our own fans questions too.

Oh my fucking days redissue. Keep him, fuck that.

'You call us rags but you want to call us something else' ...... nah lad we just grew up. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't then. Let your club mither others, bring the mubbling bald twat, ticket touting kunt mention it to sky cameras and his bored milkman who's heard it a thousand times.

Having sponsers of the 50th anniversary was crass.

Why are you mithering a City forum now, you should be celebrating lad.

What I will say is that in the absence of an announcement about Taggart's retirement, a palpable increase in turnout on this occasion, given that it has been a very similar season to 2010/11, would be pretty compelling evidence of how much we get under their skin.

Which as we all know is a great deal.

We all know that there are thousands of the fuckers in Manchester.

Right up to the late 80's the swamp had plenty of local support on match days.

Once the glory years started they sold most of them out, treating them like shit and prices shot up, forcing them in to cup schemes and with the glory came the plastics, the tourists and the fans with money.

I dread this happening to our club but I can see it coming. Our fan base is spreading throughout the globe. It's a fact that people cling to success and want to be part of it and look to support the successful team.

The local reds who no longer go and the ones I speak to have no desire to return to OT and when you haven't been for ten years and you used to pay £15 to get in and now it's £50 your not likely to return.

Manchester isn't Blue and it isn't Red it's a load of bollocks

Yep,putting aside the mutual loathing.
I know a lot of match going united fans who can't afford to go as much anymore. They also complain at the lack of atmosphere nowadays.
All this Manchester is Blue or Red is just banter and not to be taken too seriously.
