Goalkeeper situation summer 25

He conceded directly from a corner in two successive matches didn't he?
Nah, first one was Onana. Bayindir just decided to show that he is at least as bad at every aspect of being a goalkeeper as he is when he got the chance.

His distribution with his feet is also something more aking to a basketball player rather than any kind of footballer.

Ortega is proved in the last couple of months he simply is not good enough as a first choice, he's made mistakes and his confidence has dropped considerably and it shows in his play and the lack of confidence in him from his defenders.

Ederson will be a huge loss, but the guy has come and won the lot and has a huge financial offer in Saudi that transforms his and his friends and family's life forever and for a guy coming from a favela in Brazil that not going to be rejected and understandably so.

So we are looking for 2 and probably 3 goalkeepers ( Carson gone) and that won't be an easy proposition, Viana has got some serious work on his hands.

Diogo Costa (24, Porto)
Bento (25, Al Nassr)
Bart Verbruggen (21, Brighton)
Julen Agirrezabala (23, Atletic Bilbao)
Mile Svilar (24, Roma)
Franco Israel (24, Sporting)
Luiz Junior (23, Villareal)
Lucas Chevalier (22, Lille)

Is the names that immediately jumps out of the page if you search for goalkeepers under the age of 25. Of those Diogo Costa has never impressed me outside of his distribution and obviosly saving penalties. Have watched Verbruggen for Brighton and I'd say his distribution is a level below what we need unless the coaching staff think there is enough to work with there.

Those of you that watch loads of football, who are the obvious ones?
Might as well go a bit older in age range as I don't think any of those will come close to an Eddie, Allison or Courtois level.

Maignan and Kobel both have holes in their games too and you never know how keepers will adapt to - Onana looked incredible at Inter and Ajax.

All in all I'd give Ederson a blank cheque.

A tad concerning that we haven't seen any genuine links to any GKs so far although I'm sure we're doing work behind the scenes on that front.

Aren’t we bringing anyone through, or have one out on loan?

Seems to me we want a Liam Neeson-type GK and I can’t believe we haven’t been developing one who can stop a shot or two every now and then, too?!

Young goalkeepers need first team football to develop. We can’t give them that time. Personally, I think Trafford is a good a shout as anyone and doesn’t he have a buyback clause?

I'm trying my hardest to get ederson focused again, his distribution is so elite and beneficial and I want it utilised more when teams try press hard and let marmoush and haaland go

Ederson isn’t arsed so let him go.

Pep will want a keeper great with his feet so Ederson 2.0. Not sure I can identify one but there’ll be someone in the Kosovan league or similar who the scouts will pluck out of the sky.

Pure “stops the ball going in the net” wise Flekken at Brentford is the best keeper in the league imo. Always has a top game everytime I watch them.

Keep Ortega as number 2.

Fuck Carson off and get the kid from the youth in as number 3.
But Carson is good for bantz init

The only thing that will get his focus is

The guy has won it all and can you blame him taking 400k a week from Saudi?

Fill your boots Eddie.

I think Ederson had his head turned in the summer, and at times this season I've felt that he's just going through the motions, and his performances have sometimes reflected that.

He could make a fortune in the Saudi league, and like many other players, once you've won the treble and 4 in a row what else is there to win, which is what Grealish said to Pep.

Even Danial Craig on wrapping the James Bond film Spectre, was asked by a journalist, if he would do another one, and Craig answered he'd rather slit his wrists. As a 6 month shoot working 7 days a week 17 hours a day was the last thing he would want is to do anytime soon.

Thats where I think that treble/4 in a row winning squad are, how do you reclimb Mount Everest after only just doing it.

So I think there will be a phased rebuild, but I can't see how we will let Ederson, Ortega, Carson Grealish, KDB, Silva, Gundo, Nunes, Ake, Stones, Rico and Walker, and maybe others go Kovacic, its too many to replace.

But as always this is just my opinion nothing more.
