Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Thats where I think that treble/4 in a row winning squad are, how do you reclimb Mount Everest after only just doing it.
But isn't that the mark of serial winning champions? The moment anyone in the structure shows signs of losing the desire & interest to go again, you get rid before complacent lethargy infects the rest of the squad.

I think this may account for 20% of our current issues, but the remaining 80% is all down to our woeful succession planning. There's no one else to blame but City.

Myself & many fans warned against this after the treble, but the following season, we essentially went with what we had when all the signs were there that the squad was physically, mentally & emotionally drained, not to mention that several key players were edging toward the end of their elite football careers because of age & were ready for the MLS or Saudi.

There is no doubt that an Ederson contract extension would make our lives considerably easier this coming summer - feels unlikely.

Didn’t Alan Nixon link us to Matty Young like a month ago? England U20 keeper on loan at Salford from Sunderland. Meant to be very good - obvs not as no1. English keepers help the HG quota too.

Does anyone think there is a world Eddy extends? The GK contract situation isnt great with both of them expiring 2026. I don’t think Ortega should be no1

Bringing in Kelleher with the promise of first-team football might actually be the play here. If he is as good as he has looked at times for Liverpool we get a HG first-team goalkeeper with experience for a top side and a skill-set that suits us with the added bonus of pissing off scousers. If he ends up proving that he doesn't scratch that itch as a starting goalkeeper for a team like ours, we can evaluate the market next summer if it exists someone mlre obvious to take that role while we can keep a decent experienced homegrown 2nd choise for at least one season. Maybe Trafford has taken further steps by then

Yeah, that kid doesnt wanna leave Sunderland though. Home town boy who wants to the #1 longer term.

Id love Eddie to extend.

It’s annoying Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer, joining summer 2025.

Looks like a hell of a keeper

we're had a fuckton go through the academy time to drag one back to take over from Carson lol
An academy keeper or any young keeper is pointless as a 3 though ,never plays except in an emergency and so never improves. I mean what keeper in their early 20s with ambition is going to want to be our 3rd keeper.

only if you go back 5 years to get one, go back 10+

Schmeichel is club trained and still playing. two birds etc

They have 4 keepers now and either Kelleher or Allison will be leaving.
I wouldn't mind Kelleher at all

Totally agree with everything you've said there.

Kelleher will leave anyway unless they promise him he starts next season as first-choice, he is in the same boat as Ortega where he has outgrown the bench. I think Liverpool would have been fine with him staying over Alisson at this point but the Mamardishvili signing complicates it a bit

Can't see us signing three keeper Carson may extend, he is third choice he can extend as long as he wants he is simply there for our squad lists so the youth can play at youth level or get a loan. There is no way we sell both ederson and Ortega in the summer it would be madness think eddy leaves and Ortega will leave the following summer unless he accepts his role as a backup and extends.

Allison may go too as I don't think they've brought this new keeper in to sit in the bench.
Like us, their current number 1 and 2 could leave in summer. Only difference is they were 1 step ahead and brought in a replacement already.

Random guess. Kelleher to Newcastle. Pope to city as number 2.

I think we will rather compromise on traditional goalkeeping ability rather than compromise on their play on the ball.

I doubt we will ever find someone as good as Ederson with their feet but we won't go for someone that neglects that part of the game as much as Pope either. We might as well go for Donarumma then considering PSG wants to get him out so they can get someone better on the ball in

Diogo Costa might be worth having a closer look at but he isn't an outstanding keeper.
