God

I prayed to god for a bike for Christmas when I was a kid, I prayed and prayed and prayed and then it just got to the point where God wasn't answering my prayers, but then I realised that's not how God works so I robbed one instead and prayed for God's forgiveness ;0)

But on a serious note, I for one don't believe in his exsistance, for one thing other planets??? Why would there be other planets in the world if God created us??? Dinosaurs, why would there be fossels of a previous living creature that died thousands of years ago??? Or did God just put them there to fool us??? And lastly surely if God created us he wouldn't give us a enormous star (The Sun) that is incapable of exploding destroying all of his creation.

First thing to say is i'm an atheist! I don't believe in god at all but did philosophy of religion to A-Level to see what the other side of the 'argument' was like!

It is pretty obvious God doesn't exist, it is similar to the cultures in the past praying to the sun and thor, zeus etc... There is something within certain people (quite a lot really!) where they feel they need a divine purpose and direction in life, they can't just be here to reproduce and then die like every other animal on the planet, they are special! In reality they aren't! I could ramble on for a long time with proof that God doesn't exist going in to carbon dating and how there are rocks that are MILLIONS of years old not just a few thousand years old when God was said to have created the planet but i'll resist the temptation!

However, I do believe that church as a social gathering is good, it promotes family and social values in the community as well as bringing people together! I don't believe the traditional church (especially catholic!) does this anymore as its tarnished itself forever with the massive amount of paedophiles that are in them and its interest in making money above all else! There are however newer, smaller churches opening all the time!

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.

I dont quite understand this. How come God doesnt exist because of carbon dating etc. Explain.

I can counter these.

Why not other planets?? the universe is a pretty big place. Why would it not be feasible for us know enough for our minds to get around?

In the Bible, it is said that the earth was re-made many times, as He was displeased by previous carnations. This would have 'logic' when it comes dinosaurs.

Finally, I don't understand your last sentence: "...a star that is INCAPABLE of exploding, destroying His creation??"?

And why wouldnt he create a star that could do this? I dont see how any of your points can explain that God doesn't exist.

well surely if he created the world and man why would he plan to destroy it with a massive star?? Unless he has a sick sense of humor??? I also don't understand why God is portraited as a he?????

The creation story in Genesis 1 and 2 is not about the creation of the world, but it is there to teach us about the spiritual regeneration of people.

While the mind cleaves to the literal sense alone, no one can possibly see that such things are contained within it. Thus in these first chapters of Genesis, nothing is discoverable from the sense of the letter other than that the creation of the world is treated of, and the garden of Eden which is called Paradise, and Adam as the first created man. Who supposes anything else? But it will be sufficiently established in the following pages that these matters contain arcana which have never yet been revealed; and in fact that the first chapter of Genesis in the internal sense treats in general of the new creation of man, or of his regeneration, and specifically of the Most Ancient Church; and this in such a manner that there is not the least expression which does not represent, signify, and enfold within it these things. (Arcana Coelestia 4)

...everything put together as history from Genesis 1 down to Eber in Chapter 11 means something different from what appears in the letter, and from the consideration that the historical narratives there are purely made-up history...
(Arcana Coelestia 2010)

So the world was not created in seven days. However, God did create the universe and God gave life to all things living.

Ok, so I didnt write this, apologies., But it shows generally my belief of creation. It shows that religion and science (evolution etc) can go together, I hope.

I take it you surmise this statement from some 'proof' of science??

well stars are an explosion of gases and the sun is a star itself
