Regarding my handicap increase over the season it didn't help that the greens were absolutely dog shit due to an incompetent greenkeeper and non existent greens committee. We are now using temporary greens in October which hasn't happened in my time at the club which I joined over 40 years ago.

Got an up to date driver that was fitted. Graphite 50g shaft. The days of steel shafts in drivers has long gone. Tried my old Tony Pena persimmon with stiff steel shaft that I gamed in the 80s a few years ago, it was like using a poker.

I’ve not made the shift yet as I’m still ok with my distance off the tee and my issues are more with consistency than distance. I used my cousins driver the other day though which is a graphite one and it was pretty mad how far I was able to hit it in comparison!

I changed clubs due to my previous one being like that. The one I’m at now is very well draining and doesn’t need to use temporary greens at any time.

Started at 3.6 ended at 5.5, so a pretty shit year. Been on the slide since the lockdowns. A big problem has been loss of distance, particularly off the tee. I'm 60 now and I'm certain it's physical decline. I've decided to go down the route of speed training, and doing some weights. Made some superspeed sticks, didn't want to pay £200 for the real thing so I made some from old driver shafts, nuts and epoxy. Training schedules are on YouTube. Driver swing speed is currently 90mph and my target is to get near 100 if I can.
What’s your carry at the moment with your driver ? I’m nearly 59 and carry about 200-210 . Really struggling with our long par 4s which are around 430ish. I need either a good straight 5 wood or an excellent 3 shot wedge .. Basically I’m playing bogey golf and relying on my short game & course management. I can’t seem to break 84 this season had a 81 once and 78 at a pretty easy course Seahouses.

If you've got the cash go and get a new fitted driver, it'll pay dividends. There are no professionals using steel drivers.
My brother who plays to the same handicap was fitted to a ping g430 and it made a big difference, he knocks it past me with ease, when he never could.

Sounds like me, some of the long par 4s are now out of reach in 2. It doesn't help that there's no run out there. My carry distances are the same.

5.5 at 60 is brilliant mate, definitely lose distance at all levels, I used to hit about 230, recon it’s more earl 200’s now. I wouldn’t be too disappointed.

My course is normally well drained and temporary greens have only ever been used when it's been icy so we are all pissed off.

In June and July when we had had the good weather and fast running fairways it wasn't a problem it's just when the ball goes 200 instead of 240 with the run.

Do any of you play at a course that don’t use fairway mats , proper greens and well draining??
Me and my mates fancy a trip out over the Xmas period.. I looked at Delamere Forest but it’s £90 even in the winter !
