Golf Thread

Golf Sidekick is good for the course management side. Bad Golf is quite amusing for a vlog.

Instruction wise, given most of them up nowadays as it can be a dangerous rabbit hole! Padraig Harringtons are good though.
I agree about watching too many instructional videos, I’m trying to keep it to Danny Maude & Chris Dennis for short game and putting .

Yeah think of all of them, Danny Maude or Chris Ryan are the best with the instruction videos.

Don’t think anything beats lessons with a decent local pro though. I’d picked up some bad habits watching too many vids and applying some of the ideas without really understanding my swing. I’m able to self diagnose a lot better now.

The flood plain for the Mersey, will take some recovering from. Do the club get any compensation for having the river diverted their way?
Didsbury flooded when the Mersey came over at Ford Lane before the sluice gates were opened.

Walmersley been shut for days too, booked in to be playing at Bury on Friday which is supposedly going to be a sunny day. Fingers crossed.
Walmersley is a tough walk, we played it about 3 years ago, is it the course with a wind turbine next to the green?

I’m sure you will know not far from Bury is Pike Fold, around 24 of us go there every year (not last 2) for the golf and beer festival, pint on arrival, golf, nosebag then beer festival at night with an artist, real ales £2.50 a pint, really good day and the members make us so welcome, my favourite golfing day of the year. Poster from three years ago attached.

I`ve played there a lot over the years. My wifes family lived in Romiley now Bredbury. Its a nice course I`ve always liked it. I still play golf there with my nephew. Then I take him round the Marriott.
I’ve just joined , looking forward to getting my new handicap. I used to be a member At Werneth Low 14 years ago .

Tough course Romiley, played it last summer, was in great condition, you should enjoy it there.

Did you know a member at Werneth called Pete Slate? He’s been there a long time, past Captain, about mid 40’s now, and a Blue.

Played Werneth years ago. The old pro from Birchwood Derek Cooper held the course record 57 I think.

I think you`ll love it at Romiley GC its a good course and the members seemed friendly when ever I`ve been in the bar.

That’s right DC did hold the record but I think it might of been the old 9 hole course before it was extended to 11 holes . There used to be a great old school Pro at WL called Tony Bacchus. At one time he was the longest serving Pro in the U.K. . He’s retired now . Lovely fella

He was and still is very good mates with my step lad. He used to come on our bus to the match. I had a minibus and Executive car a few years ago. I took Pete, his wife, his mate and his wife to the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor on the Friday. It absolutely pissed down all day, with tickets, my fee, food and drink the day cost them about a £1k and they saw 8 shots. I felt sorry for them so bought them beers for the journey home.

Yeah, it is a tough walk and yes it’s the one with the wind turbine. I love the course, nice and quirky. It was a toss up between there and Pike Fold for me joining, but I just find Pike Fold a bit too easy, can spray it all over the place and get away with it. Plus I’m led to believe it struggles like fuck with drainage with being so flat. That said, the day you mention sounds a good shout, I’ll consider doing that if it’s on this year.

It’s on, yes, they’ve not put it on the site yet, usually around March when they announce the date.

I enjoyed Walmersley, I take it from your post the Course drains well.

Few holes that struggle, the 3 across the motorway bridge for example, but they just get closed. 2 holes been closed all winter for drainage works too. There’s usually some form of 9 or 12 hole loop available which has been fine for a knock.

I did a 72hole challenge for prostate cancer charity at Walmersley last year, that was a proper walk!
Me and my mate have booked to play the doubles open at Morecombe golf club on Friday, not played in weeks due to the bad weather

Maude and Ryan are decent, the better ones seem to be in the states athletic motion golf and Monte Scheinblum are excellent.
