Goodbye Mario? (merged)

Agree with the thrust of most of the comments on Mario.
Great memories of his contribution in the Cup Semi final against the glory boys, great game in the Final, the goals & the celebration in the 6-1, the wink at ferdinand!
all brilliant!
Great tales of exploits in and around Manchester - a genuine character and seemingly loved by all who met him.
Still, glad he's gone - our love affair was going pear-shaped - and I think most of the good times were behind us.
I wish him all the very best and hope he now realises that "potential" we're always hearing about.
A unique place in City's history!

It shouldn't bother me, but it really annoys me when people from other countries moan about our food. Someone with the resources of a Cheshire based Premier League footballer can eat what they want, when they want, as well as eat at some of the world's best restaurants within three hours drive, something a resident of Milan could not boast. I lived there for a short while in the early-naughties and it is well short of being a 'great' city.

Agree with him about our weather, mind.
No, it shouldn't. :-) Wouldn't have had you down for a little Englander. I didn't think it was a formative element of your well-tanned schlong. ;-)
Not a little Englander, no, as you well know - but it is perfectly natural to be defensive when someone says something wholly incorrect about where you are from or something you care about. I am certain that if he'd have said something incorrect about City fans even you might take issue.

It pisses me off because if I was on £5 million pa anywhere in the developed world for a couple of years I can guarantee I would walk away from the experience saying the food was nice. This is because far from being a little Englander the opposite is in fact true: I would seek out the best restaurants and employ a personal chef to make sure the food was enjoyable. It was quite telling that a man who complained about the food only ever seemed to eat in an overrated, over-priced Italian restaurant. It is pure laziness and insularity that means people can't be arsed making the effort to find good places to eat in this country, which are, in actual fact, in abundance.

It pisses me off because living in another country is something that should broaden your horizons, especially if you have the time and resources to make the most of the experience. Anyone with money who comes to this country and says the food was crap has wasted the opportunity to make the most of their time here. They only hold that view because they haven't used their time here productively .

If he had come here, played in League 2 and said the grounds here were crap and half empty this would only be true because of the level he was playing at. I fear Mario has been dining at the bargain basement, which reflects poorly on him imo.

Maybe Mario was limited in where he could go to eat because the media scrum that followed his every movement. Also, hasn't Mario been getting some mentoring/advice from Carlos over recent months who said similar things not so long ago.

Mario said great things about the Blues and surely that is more important than whether he attended a Lowry exhibition or even made the Hacienda reunion party.

It's only important because he brought the subject of the food up. No-one forced him to.

Also, I heard the food at the Haç reunion was average, at best ;-)

Knee injuries diminished him as a player. He used to be quick in Italy

Wasn't expecting this sort of reaction. It really has irked you far more than it should have.

Anyway, you've made a huge and probably incorrect presumption there. He could have meant food of English origin. He may well have not taken to fish and chips, black pudding and hotpot, stodgy food, rather than just any food he was served in England. He spent a lot of time in San Carlo from what I know. I find it extremely difficult to be irritated by someone's food preferences. I don't like Chinese food, but I'm prepared to make allowances for friends of mine. :-) Bet you don't even remember that.

Love this wish Roberto and the club would do exactly the same to the media over here

Telling it like it is, nice one.

Saw it this morning. made me smile when he told them where to go. Wish we followed his example with a few reporters/papers

Ha ha - what's even funnier is that the reporter asking the question was that bitter prick Antony Kastrinakis who was responsible for one of the most despicable pieces of journalism ever when penning the match report for our 2-0 win away to Blackburn on the opening day of the 2009-10 season.

Of course I remember that. I was genuinely shocked at how quiet the place was. I used to go there with my brother and was talking to him over Xmas about how empty the place was when I was in there with you. Don't worry, next time we can go to a co-operative, organic, mother earth restaurant and have lentil and yoghurt bake with elder flower wine.
