Not a little Englander, no, as you well know - but it is perfectly natural to be defensive when someone says something wholly incorrect about where you are from or something you care about. I am certain that if he'd have said something incorrect about City fans even you might take issue.
It pisses me off because if I was on £5 million pa anywhere in the developed world for a couple of years I can guarantee I would walk away from the experience saying the food was nice. This is because far from being a little Englander the opposite is in fact true: I would seek out the best restaurants and employ a personal chef to make sure the food was enjoyable. It was quite telling that a man who complained about the food only ever seemed to eat in an overrated, over-priced Italian restaurant. It is pure laziness and insularity that means people can't be arsed making the effort to find good places to eat in this country, which are, in actual fact, in abundance.
It pisses me off because living in another country is something that should broaden your horizons, especially if you have the time and resources to make the most of the experience. Anyone with money who comes to this country and says the food was crap has wasted the opportunity to make the most of their time here. They only hold that view because they haven't used their time here productively .
If he had come here, played in League 2 and said the grounds here were crap and half empty this would only be true because of the level he was playing at. I fear Mario has been dining at the bargain basement, which reflects poorly on him imo.
Wasn't expecting this sort of reaction. It really has irked you far more than it should have.
Anyway, you've made a huge and probably incorrect presumption there. He could have meant food of English origin. He may well have not taken to fish and chips, black pudding and hotpot, stodgy food, rather than just any food he was served in England. He spent a lot of time in San Carlo from what I know. I find it extremely difficult to be irritated by someone's food preferences. I don't like Chinese food, but I'm prepared to make allowances for friends of mine. :-) Bet you don't even remember that.
