Suffered - and I mean SUFFERED (as others who have had it will testify) for years.
Narpoxen and alupironol are the answers, again as everyone has said.
Agree with the poster who said starting aluprinol whilst suffering an attack will aggravate the attack,
The best advice I ever had from a doctor, was from a doctor who suffered with gout himself.
He said there are a lot of myths surrounding gout and it isn't down to "just drinking port or red wine and eating venison or red meat"
Yes, diet habits can affect it, but it can also be hereditary, it can also be brought on because of stress as well as other things - it's caused by a build up of uric acid and your body not being able to break it down quickly enough, so drinking lots of water does help.
He also said if you stop eating and drinking everything that is bad for you, you'll just be miserable - so everything in moderation is the advice.
Foolishly I stopped taking aluprinol and thought I'd got away with it until a few weeks ago and I had another attack/flare up and it was excruciating - I couldn't get a shoe on so lost time at work and even having the duvet on it at night was unbearable. You can't put your foot up to rest it, you can't have your foot down, you can't walk properly and then, because you're walking unnaturally other parts of your body start to hurt!!
So a prescription of narpoxen, plus another tablet because aluprinol and narpoxen eat away your stomach lining, so the other tablet compensated for that, and I'm now back to normal and taking an aluprinol a day.........and I'll never not take one a day again because I never want Gout ever again!!
I wouldn't wish it on anybody, yet part of me wishes everybody experiences it just once, so they could understand what us sufferers endure.
Even now when I am "gout free" my big toe joints and ankle joints always give me a bit of grief because of the gout attacks over the years - I'm only 51 and I follow the Adidas trainer thread closely because I have a fetish for trainers, yet have to be choosy over what I can and cannot wear on my feet because of gout attacks
Simply put, gout is the worst pain ever!!
