Government force charity upon us

Can I just ask what is the point in this? Why are they wasting time thinking of these things when they clearly have bigger things to sort out i.e the whole bleeding country. They're trying to force something upon us which should be optional only. I don't want to be stood waiting at the cash machine whilst someone ponders giving money to a charity nor do I wish to be put on the spot and asked the same thing in the shop, especially if the lines are growing by the second. Complete waste of time. This is a time where parents are having to save up for any children they have from the day they're born if they wish to send them to University, not a time when they should be stood in Asda with ten people behind them asking whether they wish to fund some scheme which I'm sure if they truly cared about they'd have checked out at home. I wonder if one of the charities will fund those in poverty in the UK and fund the University fees for them.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Government implemented a charity tax either.

Etc. etc.
I may take a smoke grenade, paint and trash a police van because I'm losing my job in March thanks to government cuts, or perhaps I won't because I'm not a cry baby like some.

Or because you haven't got the balls.

Yeah it takes balls to run in a mob wearing a balaclava and throwing stones at police !

As for Stony, again good for you. You are in a minority so why deny others? It costs you fuck all.

Anyway, it's a good idea and gonna happen so I'm happy.

I think this is an excellent idea, and I am really confused by those who insist the decision is forced upon them.

How do you know I'm in a minority ? Surely you're not suggesting this thread is representative of the UK as a whole ?

While not costing me anything it's still intrusive.

It's a fucking shit idea and it's not definitely going to happen so you're wrong again.

lol, I currently have a choice of any charity in the world I deem worthy. If people choose A B or C at the cashpoint then they are unlikely to donate to another charity. People like the easy option and if you've already salved your conscience by donating at the bank you'd be unlikely to donate further.

You're quite the optimist aren't you.

So you don't think that the amount "given" overall will increase?

Most people don't donate anything, despite the current choice of "any charity in the world" and you know it. But when the bill comes to £3.78, they may well think, yeah I'll round it to £4.

If they do that often enough, multiplied by millions, the outcome could be fantastic.

If you give to salve your conscience then I feel a bit sorry for you.

I have a shop and the number of customers who wait for their penny change, nevermind 12p, is far higher than those that say, 'put it in the charity box.'

Even if it is just 1 in 20 - then it would still be hugely beneficial.

As for Stony, no, you are wrong and if you feel having an option is intrusive, then you are very strange. Looking through this thread, those posters I respect, though not always agree with are in agreement that it is a good idea. I couldn't care less how upset it makes you, in fact, I can't wait for it to happen just so that I know you will get upset on a daily basis when buying more toys to throw out of the pram.

So you're at the asdas check out and the till operator asks, "do you want to donate to charity?"
You say, "No," and a big bell goes off with flashing lights and a big neon arrow pointing at you saying 'MISERABLIST' as you walk out. Everybody loks at you and thinks tight get.

I doubt it will be like that. More just an option on the keypad.

But if it is the system you suggest, I think that would be silly and I would be against it.
