Great sayings..

My nan used to say - " well I'll go t' foot of our stairs''. Never understood what it means, anyone know?
There's a few theories out there. It seems to be a relatively new saying, possibly not much more than 100 years old. My favourite theory is that it is a cleaned up variation from an earlier phrase "I'll go t'foot of our garden/yard" (which I used to hear) and meaning "I've shat myself" because that's where the toilet would be.

When I was a kid, if I asked my nana where any female was - usually my mum - she would say she has ran away with a black man.

Never understood where that came from

My mam and gran both said that. If we asked what was for tea they'd answer "shit with sugar on"
Remember them discussing a woman on the street who's husband must have died recently. "he's still warm in the grave and she's out every night gallavanting (never knew what that meant). She'll have to be buried in a Y shaped coffin that one"

I’ve lived most of my adult life sticking to a saying I heard about 25 years ago.
“Love many, Trust few, always paddle your own canoe”

In a reference

“If you can get XXXX to work for you, you will be very fortunate...”
