Greatest Atmosphere ever at Maine Road

Colin Bell's comeback game v Newcastle, Boxing day.

The most emotional game I have ever experienced, if I remember correctly He hit the bar with a header from a corner, if the ball had gone in the net I don't think the roofs of the stands would have survived.

Incredible occasion and simply stunning atmosphere.

5-1’s v Utd and Charlton for me...if I had to pick one it would be Utd just because of the away support. Bar the first title win and stoke in the cup, it’s still my favourite day as a blue, loved the 5-1 and the fact it was a team of mancs (mainly) that stuffed the cocky red shite!
Only two Mancs in the City starting line up that day, iirc mate, if you work on the basis that Denton isn’t in Manchester. Hinchcliffe and White, although Jason Beckford came on as a sub.

29 years ago; fuck me. A beautiful autumn day and an amazing atmosphere. Reckon the only goal I’ve gone madder to than Hinchcliffe’s was Sergio’s against QPR. Completely lost it.

The Maine Road Massacre was my first ever derby.

The season following my first ever season going to City when we got promoted. We had a good start to the 90s with three good top half finishes. Good start, then came the rest of the 90s...

But yeah the 5-1 will live with me forever, I remember the Rags kicking off in the North Stand then the game stopping, I distinctly remember atmosphere for after Bishop made it 3-0 up to half time, the place was bouncing.

I remember them smashing the benches up in the Platt Lane. My Dad kept holding me close on the way out saying “stay close kid” but I felt ten foot tall coming out of Maine Road that day and thought I could have taken them on myself on the way out, I was only seven hahaha!

But for noise it was another derby that I remember well. I was in the Main Stand for the 5-1, I was in the Kippax for a night game we went 2-0 up in the first half. That night I was genuinely frightened by the noise, it hurt my ears and it crackled in the Kippax.

Had been going as a kid since 1990, and I still remember that Wigan play off game in 1999 the atmosphere was like nothing I’d heard before it was deafening at times in the north stand and i don’t think anything has matched it since.

Charlton for me.
Only time in my life I was scared in the Kippax. You could hardly breathe it was so full!

Blimey is that right, had more than that in my head! Agree re the hinchcliffe goal, the build up and finish and then chaos in the Kippax...happy days !
