As you wouldn't in a fire like that. No good options in these situations. A lot of the residents will have been elderly though and unable to get out and would probably listen to instructions to sit tight. Horrific
its all down to the financial world im affraid ''money'' the reasons this block went up in smoke, back to the jumpers i didnt realise untill i just checked up, those that jump from such things are classed as suicides a loophole to stop the life insurance paying up,the American government stepped in and changed it to homocide so they got paid out,very sad that at the end of these things someone is still trying to save a few quid

We should to, i would see the companies that tried that with these victims have their company names pinned up on a wall of shame. Those people did not commit suicide by any reasonable measure, they were forced to at least try and survive a drop as opposed to a wall of thick deadly smoke or wall of fire. In my opinion they went to extremes to survive, futile maybe but of course choice is not something these people had much of.

I have an idea, maybe not great but an idea non the less...
Every high rise should have an emergency cushioning system, like bouncy castles. They used to be if films a lot when a copper was talking someone down from jumping and stuff. Not only those, but a manual bit of scaffolding that has a rough ring shape when assembled. This would be used as a raised platform for people to stand around with a custom made piece of fabric. It would have many handles so people could stand in a circle and try to catch jumpers.
There is a chance this apparatus could have saved some lives imo.
Maybe universal clamping systems with accordingly long lengths of rope attached on all levels to.
I think the fact that it's mostly concrete rather than steel means that it's unlikely to collapse.On tv the building is still burning I fully expect it to come down, the floor integratiy will fail at some point then it will fall.
Emergency Zip wires, fast, effective and you cant go up em easy to rob flats :(
As it happens when i was about 20 i was chased down 4-6 flights of stairs in a concrete fire escape stairwell by a ball of flame, just because someone had left a door open at the very top of the stairwell and a fire started at the bottom and got sucked up the friggin fire escape looking for oxygen. By the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (may his sauce always be rich) i am here because a nosey bastard heard shouting on the stairs and open the door as i ran into it on the landing.....4 sets of stairs more and i was in the eye of the fire ast it was in the base of the stairwell next to the outside door....weird but i don't think i was ever the same after.
